I bought this portable pump about 3 years ago for fixing flats on the road. I keep it stowed in my truck under the back seat. It has worked very well. Its convenient enough that I use it at home to maintain tire pressure in all of our vehicles. Its been a reliable tool with good build quality. Good to know: The pump gets hot for a bit, so you need to let it cool before re-stowing it. If you have a lifted truck the power cables might not allow the pump to reach the ground. The pressure gauge only reads when the unit is off. That makes for a little back and forth when you want to check progress. Not hard to let out excess pressure, though. ... show more

I was wanting a better quality tire inflator to carry in my Travel Trailer. It had to easily inflate my trailer tires that are rated for 80psig. I read over the reviews of several inflators and decided on the 300P. Put it to the test yesterday. I am very pleased. Had no problem handling the 80psi tires. Pumped one that was at 70 psi up to 80 in about 65 seconds. The battery clips are plenty large enough to grab onto a battery post connector. My trailer batteries are located front underside of my 34 foot 5th wheel center compartment. With electric wire and coil air hose, I reached tires with no excessive stretching. The air hose to valve stem clamp is very good and tight. No air loss and would be much easier than the screw on fittings others come with. This unit also has the "Air release" feature to let out excess pressure. The air gauge is a good quality. The pump is much quieter than I thought it would be. Comes with a very good carrying bag that has room to include any special fittings you may need. I did have my trailer plugged into electric power when using the inflator. The write up on it stated to have vehicle running while using. This is to give the 12V a little extra boost. This is understandable. The in-line electrical fuse would make it very easy to replace fuse if needed. I will be buying an extra fuse to carry just in case. ... show more

PROS: Filled each of the 17" tires on my MINI from 30psi to 40psi in about 10 seconds. Acceptable noise level. Feels solid. CONS: Probably overkill for a small car or sedan. No preset pressure settings. Powered by dual battery clamps only, which limits its versatility. Instructions were text only — diagrams would have been helpful. I grew tired of messing with temperamental coin-operated air pumps at gas stations, and forget about free air pumps in Washington, DC so, I started researching personal use air compressors. The reviews on Amazon were not promising. Aside from the obviously fake 5-star reviews, every portable compressor under $100 had 1-star reviews in the 10% or higher range, which is a red flag for me. Common complaints seemed to be overheating, faulty pressure settings, and generally short lifespans. I've only used the VIAIR 300P Portable Compressor once to top off all four of the tires on my MINI, but it worked flawlessly and really quickly: 10 seconds per tire to go from 30 to 40 psi. I didn't touch the heatsink but I don't think it had a chance to get very hot. There is no way to preset the compressor to a certain PSI so it is critical to keep your eye on it and test the pressure frequently. It has an inline PSI gauge that appears accurate, meaning it matched the reading from my hand held air gauge. The instructions indicate that the gauge is not reliable during compression due to the velocity of air passing through it so, it is necessary to turn the compressor off in order to get an accurate pressure reading. The instructions were well written (not a clunky Google translation from Chinese to English) but some diagrams, especially to identify all the parts would have been helpful. Overall I think VIAIR 300P Portable Compressor is a solid tool, albeit an expensive one given its lack of versatility. ... show more

This has been in my car for 6 years. Thrown around and used often. First off the bottom plate fell off. It rattled on the blacktop so I didn’t care. Rubber mounts so gotta be careful how you handle it. The air filter broke on me 2 years into use. I didn’t care for that either. The gauge works fine. The hose and everything else works fine as well. I blew a fuse once. Not sure why but replaced it and it was fine. I’ve aired up tractor tires and all sorts of stuff without failure and still going strong. Worth the money? Yes. Better than others? Took a trip this weekend to big bear off-road on the trails of the north and south side of the lake and got to use the compressor for the first time. After getting on the trail I aired down to 20 lbs with my ARB tool. When I went to air up the pump was extremely easy to connect to my battery and reached all 4 ties with n o issues. The coil hose was long enough and did not put any tension or pull the pump over. When I hooked up the valve it read 20 lbs just as I had left it. I filled each one to 45 lbs and the gauge was perfectly accurate after double checking with a separate gauge. The pump was EXTREMELY quite which was nice not having a tiny pump screaming in your ear. I couldn't be happier with it and would 100% recommend. 5 STARS!! ... show more

I ordered this because my previous plastic, cigarette lighter connected air compressor would take forever to air up a tire and sound horribly loud. This VIAIR compressor is soo much faster and quieter. Also it appears to be solidly built with mostly metal parts. The air hose attaches to a standard pneumatic fitting which means if the air hose gets damaged or leaks overtime, it will be easy to replace it with any off the shelf pneumatic air hose. It will fit behind the rear seat storage area of a Tacoma Double Cab (2010) if you rearrange the accessory bag and place the air hose on top of the compressor in the main compartment of the bag. The only problem I found with this unit is that the air hose took a lot of force to get it to connect to the compressor fitting. Hopefully it will get easier with time. ... show more
