  • Texture is too coarse
Size: 1 Pack Color: 5KG Block
The price is good, but the quality of this order was less than my previous one. The fibers are longer and there's more dust. Overall, it's more coarse than I like.

  • This stuff is great.
Size: 1 Pack Color: Buffered 5KG
The media could not be loaded. This block weighed almost exactly 11 lbs, consistency was great, light and fluffy, absorbed water just fine. I got this stuff to help me root Fig cuttings and it works great.

  • Possible issue in received coco coir.
Size: 1 Pack Color: Buffered 5KG
It is standard coco coir, but unfortunately mine has a type of powdery mildew in it. I have tried a number of different plants and seeds with completely separate growth environments. Each attempt resulted in mildew growth when using this bag's coco coir if used straight after wetting. To make the best of it I have been wetting and microwaving to heat it up enough to kill any pathogens. After that it works great and had no issues. It is probably a random bad batch, but please use caution. The PM grows within a week or so once wet, so it should be fairly obvious. (Yes I did a batch side by side with and without microwaving, same mildew issue on the non-microwaved cup full. 100% in there as delivered) ... show more

  • My Positive & Negative Opinions
Size: 2 Pack Color: 5KG Block
I’ve used this brand of coconut coir in brick form like these & in a 1.5 cu feet bag (hydrated & fluffed). While I like the texture & convenience of the bag, I like the price of these bricks. It’s not hard to rehydrate. Simply sometimes I don’t want to add water, wait & soak, use something to separate the dry from the wet & repeat. The positive which I’ve found is that after reconstituting I mix with a medium grade potting soil or garden soil. For the purpose of this review I’d like to focus on mixing with potting soil. My mix contains the med grade potting soil or potting mix. There is a difference. I often add some worm castings or chicken manure, maybe a bit of compost and depending on what I’ll be doing I may add in some organic slow release fertilizer (think Osmacote). This mix is rich, fluffy, it’ll hold extra water & wont cause caking of soil. Your soil won’t be hard as a rock whereas water runs down the side of the container. — It’s so easy to work with. Additionally, from my understanding coconut coir breaks down into the soil in approx 3 years. One other positive for me. I grow inside & under lights in the winter. I also start my spring plants in January & early February. I used to get a lot of fungus gnats even though I used fans & tried not to over water. —- When I started using coconut coir exclusively I no longer had nasty fungus gnats. Overall I give double thumbs up to Viagrow coconut coir in this brick form. I would ask though that the price would be lowered a bit. THIS particular 2-pack is priced well for me but I’ve seen the same stuff going for at least double what I paid. (& the bagged & fluffed stuff is great, just too expensive for me) ... show more

  • Plastic chunk in package / did not breakdown
Size: 1 Pack Color: Buffered 5KG
The coco coir came with a big chunk of pvc pipe. Also it did not break down with water. I had to break it down with my hands.

  • Wonderful product !!!
Size: 1 Pack Color: 5KG Block
Awesome alternative to peat moss as your soil median. Package arrived to my home quickly and I rehydrated it in minutes. Good product this is my 2x buy. I use a ratio of 7:2:2 coco coir:worm castings:perlite

  • Great buy
Size: 1 Pack Color: 5KG Block
This is one of my favorite gardening products. The coconut coir expands in water. I mix it with potting soil. It’s a good way to stretch the potting soil. Be aware, you really need a wheelbarrow or large tub if you are using the whole 11 lbs at once. If you want to use a little at a time, you’ll have to take a knife or some sort of pry bar to break off layers of coconut coir. It’s not hard to do but is a little bit messy. But hey! Gardening is always a little messy, right? ... show more

  • As expected, true to advertised weight!
Size: 1 Pack Color: 5KG Block
We switched to using coconut coir for growing wheatgrass for our juice shop. The convenience of having so much dirt readily available without the fuss of bagged garden dirt or even harvesting/using our own dirt from home has been a time saver (and back saver). We were hesitant to purchase from the reviews stating that these were not truly 5kg/11lb as advertised, but as the picture shows below, it was 11.93 for the first bag we’ve received so far. Will update if our future orders of this product show further consistency or if there’s some differences to report. So far, so good! ... show more
