I had an LCD digital clock, but the numbers were faint and blurry. A friend who is nearly blind had a unit similar to this, with bright, sharp letters and numbers, so I ordered this and love it. It takes very little power, and I keep it set to white characters on a black background (there are a number of color choices, but they don't have as much contrast). Easy to read from 20 or 30 feet, and even with the black background, it still makes an excellent night light, as well as a great clock. ... show more

Bought one of these for my 85-year old dad, who is suffering from "sundowners" (can't tell day from night) and he loved it so much, we got him another one. It has a clear, bright display and is working flawlessly and really helps him to know if it is morning, afternoon, evening or night, plus which day of the week it is. My only two very minor complaints is that it is pretty expensive for what it is and I wish the screen was slightly larger so it can be seen farther away with someone with diminished eyesight.
