ALL WENT WELL

  • Appropriately fast
Home use. Love the speed and low profile. Second one I've bought - fourth HP computer. Love the low profile and silent operation.

  • Do Not Buy. Missing SSD.
They sent me a computer with no SSD. Build quality is low. I don't think they have a quality assurance department or something. Very unfortunate.

  • Fast & compact!
I like it’s small size, comparable to the Apple Mac Mini I replaced. It’s fast, too, except at start up.

  • Solid Office PC - Easily Enhanced with a Few Tweaks
This HP ProDesk is clearly designed as an office / desk PC (and not just because of the name) - you can see it in both the hardware AND the physical design. It’s super compact - a bit of a bigger footprint than the NUC (and you can’t VESA mount it) but it’s much thinner. And while it is actively cooled (it has a fan), it’s nearly silent. Only when it’s a full bore could you hear it even in a very quiet room. It’s also a basic black and grey design, though I do think it’s attractive in an understated way. The port selection is solid with USB-C, 2 USB-A ports and an audio jack on the front. On the rear, more USB-A super-speed ports, gigabit Ethernet, power, HDMI and DisplayPort - so you can run 2 4K displays from it. Another USB-C on the back would be nice, but not necessary. It’s a power efficient PC, running off a 65 power adapter, but brings some good power with a 6 core/12 thread processor that can boost up to 4.4ghz. The built-in Radeon graphics can power basic/casual gaming or emulation (more on these in a bit) and the 256GB SSD is quick (it’s PCI-e 4.0 NVMe) and large enough - particularly for lots of office documents or where there’s access to network storage. Windows 10 Pro is standard (and many office are still on Windows 10) but you can upgrade for free to Windows 11 Pro. Built-in software is limited to the HP Wolf Security software and myHP along with the normal Windows things (all of this can be uninstalled if so desired). Out of the box then, it’s a great office PC that does pretty much anything you ask of it (and certainly anything you’d ask in an office setting) without any issues. But, what if you want more? There’s SOME headroom here. The biggest upgrades are memory and storage. First, the memory is 8GB is which ok for office work, but not great if you want to get more performance - it’s also a single stick of memory, and AMD’s Ryzen chips LOVE dual channel memory (2 matched sticks). A second 8GB stick is a quick and easy upgrade and nets big performance gains - particularly in graphics performance. You could also go higher than 16GB (2 x8GB) as there are 2 slots total that can take up to 64GB (though I haven’t tested this) in a 2x 32GB configuration. You can also replace the NVMe SSD (m.2 2280 PCIe 4.0) with a larger and faster one. The performance gain from a faster SSD won’t be huge, but having more space for storage is definitely a plus. Unfortunately, this configuration doesn’t come with the 2.5” HDD/SSD internal caddy, but you could pick one up to add that OR easily upgrade the single SSD already there. Of course, there other tweaks you can do - but the bottom line is that this is a very compact, solid performing office / desk PC from a company (HP) with a long history of building such PCs. It’s not the cheapest, but it will serve you well for years to come! ... show more

  • Powerful, Easy to Use & Setup, Great Semi-Mini PC That Won't Break the Bank
This is a great and powerful semi-mini PC! First off, the unit itself feels nicely made and doesn't feel cheap. I really like the design and the size is perfect. It has multiple USB ports and has support for dual HDMI displays. This is advertised as a business PC, but I used it for everything else and more of a personal PC, just so you're aware. The PC came with a fully licensed copy of the Windows 10 Pro operating system and had no issues doing the updates and getting it setup with my Microsoft account. I was also able to hook up a wireless mouse and keyboard and had no issues with operation. Other peripherals such as webcams, printers, and others worked just fine, too. I also was able to upgrade it to Windows 11 Pro with no issues. The setup of this PC was extremely easy - plug it in, turn it on, follow the on screen prompts for setting up Windows and your account, and you're all set. Depending on the monitor or TV you are using for this mini PC, there may be some over burn along the edges. If this happens, just simply adjust the settings on your monitor or TV. Once this was setup, I tested playing 4K sample videos and it played them with no issues - no stuttering or jitters during play back. I also played games on multiple cloud gaming services (Luna, Stadia, xCloud, Shadow, and GeForce Now) and this had no issues playing. I tried other other games that you would have to install and most of them ran fine. If you are looking to play more graphics intense games, then I wouldn't recommend this. However, if you just want to play casual games or don't mind playing in lesser quality, then you will have no issues with this one. I can also say I used this to render a 4K video through Power Director and it handled it with no problems to report. The dual monitor output works as it should and allowed for a great overall experience. When using this setup, I was able to multi-task without the PC slowing down much. In fact, I would say it was hardly noticeable. All things considered, this a great PC that works as described and in my opinion, is an excellent value for the price. It's relatively portable, pretty powerful (for most things), and easy to use. It's not going to be a gaming power house so just be aware. If you want to do light gaming, light video editing, and anything else below that power wise, then this is perfect! I really love mine! ... show more
