  • Making use of an unused 3.5 inch bay (or floppy drive bay) on your case.
This is very useful as I don't have to keep plugging in and out my memory card reader as it's already built-into the PC case. Installation wasy very easy and there are mounting screws provided too. Once it is mounted in the bay, all that is needed left is to plug it to a USB 3.0 header onto the motherboard. It's also very clear that it is USB 3.0 as the entire cable is in a pretty shade of blue. Once it's plugged in, it is recognised immediately by Windows 10. There's also a green indicator light that tells you that it is plugged in and powered on. Plugging in a memory card such as a SanDisk 128GB SD card shows up properly in Windows 10 and it even says that it is connected to USB 3.0. The speeds are also of USB 3.0 speed when transferring the files. There's plenty of other cards supported such as CF, MS, MicroSD, Sony M2 and even the old XD picture card. This significantly improved my productivity as I used to have a USB 2.0 only card reader and it was very slow compared to USB 3.0 especially when transferring large video files. Really great product! ... show more

  • Replaced a cheap USB 2.0 reader with this USB 3.0 Vantec unit. Happy Camper.
Comparing this to the cheap USB 2.0 card reader I had... PROS: Faster - I get 65 MB/s Write and 95 MB/s Read to/from a micro-SD card. All of the memory cards plug in right-side-up! Many cheaper one, the bottom row of cards plugs in upside-down. The LED is not a too-bright blue LED. This was an annoyance on my old reader. The CF slot is 10mm deep. My old reader was only 5mm; felt flimsy/weak. CONS: 3.5-inch drive bay width dimension was out of spec by 0.2mm. 101.8mm instead of 101.6mm, so I had to file the 5.25 to 3.5 adapter a little. The adapter was also out of spec at 101.4mm. So, depending on your parts it may fit just fine. The USB Type-A connector on the front is upside down. Note: I wish the cable was just a little longer as my case is big and the 20-pin connector is at the back of the PC on a PCI-e card. Not long enough to run the cable around the back of the MB and back through a grommit to the card. If you're plugging into the MB, no issue. Also, some reviewers said the CF card port was upside down, mine is right-side-up. I like this Card Reader. ... show more

  • Works as expected
I bought this mostly for the card reader, and for that purpose it does the job. The USB port works, but is poorly installed. It is 1: upside-down, and 2: slightly misshapen and at a jaunty angle. I was able to get the receiver for my mouse and keyboard into the port (took some jiggling and effort), but won't use it for flash drives because it's hard to insert and remove devices. I give this 4 stars because of the USB port. Also, it needs to be inserted into the 5.25" adapter from the front, or it won't fit properly. ... show more

  • 3.0 speed
I have trail cams as a hobby and I'm always downloading SD cards. My card slot was a 2.0 that often took forever to download. I decided to do a update on my computer added a 3.0 card on a empty PCI slot to plug this into . Had a few empty computer bays this was a easy upgrade. There are 6 various card slots even a CFI slot I have a camera that uses that card. There is also a 3.0 USB slot. Everything is good but this annoying LED light that stays on. I have a door on this bay so oh well . Very pleased with this. ... show more

  • Solid unit for the price with a small caveat..
Very fast reader and looks nice in the case. Would have been nice if they would have installed the USB port and the compact Flash port right side up but for the price and convenience of not having to plug in an external reader, I cannot complain. One issue I had was that it initially caused multiple crashes when trying to import to Adobe Lightroom as well as Sony Play Memories on Win 10 Pro. Could not figure out what was going on so I went to the Asus website and downloaded the latest USB 3.0 drivers for my motherboard (not the reader) and Bingo, everything started working perfectly. Tried SDHC, SDXC, CF, Memory Stick Duo Pro, and even Fuji XD, and they all work great. This is a solid unit at a great price. Just be aware that you may need to check your drivers. Overall good purchase except for the bonehead move of them putting in the CF slot and USB port upside down.. ... show more

  • ZOOMY fast.
I do a lot of photography on a range of cameras for work and personally, so a quality card reader is a must. This is the first card reader I've had that is solely USB 3, and it really shows! Far faster than a USB cable to the camera. I also like that this didn't need a separate power tap - just one cable to the USB 3 header on a Gigabyte AB350 ... show more

  • Won't read 32GB CF cards
I was able to read SD cards up to 64GB (biggest I have), and I was able to read CF cards up to 16GB, but I have multiple 32GB CF Type I cards that work fine in my camera and in other readers... but not this one. Just sits there with the green LED flashing (installation instructions don't say what that means, BTW). ... show more

  • No longer reads CF cards after ten uses.
The Vantec Internal Card reader worked fine when first installed on a new Windows 10 machine. Six weeks later and only used ten times (less than twice per week), the Compact Flash reader no longer works. Vantec reader still reads SD cards just fine, but since I mostly use CF cards the product is mostly useless. I don't expect card readers to last forever, but only six weeks is ridiculous. (I tested the CF cards in external readers: the cards are just fine. The pins in the reader appear to be in good shape. The machine in which the Vantex reader is installed has high-end circuitry and power protection.) ... show more
