I ordered this and it just came in some plastic no type of instructions no type of directions on how to get software to use nothing just the item in a bag so now I have to turn around and order something else that will come with some type of manual or something absolute waste of my money it does not work!! When I started with my new company, I knew that learning to use a MacBook (after not touching an Apple product for 20+ years) was going to be a bit of an uphill struggle. I didn't realize that it would be really difficult to find a smartcard reader that would work with it. My coworker told me that the older version of this reader worked with his MacBook, so I took a chance. Luckily, it works fine.     • Works fine, obnoxious light
No issues with this reading smart cards. I wanted something smaller for travel that wasn't a folding one which seem to break frequently. My only issue and why I took a star away is the obnoxious blinding blue light that blinks, persists, during read operations, or card reader usage. My other HID Global just has a faint green light that is only noticeable if you look at it. This you can't help but see. ... show more

    • No fuss and cheap
It's plug-and-play with Activclient. Just plug it in and it works. Plus it's cheap. What more do you want? The cord is a bit long for my needs - maybe 5 feet - but it's not al that cumbersome. I'm teleworking using my home laptop. I borrowed a keyboard with a card reader originally, but this one takes up less desk space. And I was leery of the plug-straight-into-a-USB-port ones as they looked fragile. They don't seem to be suited to laptops that move around a lot. ... show more
