  • A full revision !
I had an earlier version of Morgan Jones Valve Amplifiers and expected this version to have a few new snippets. I was wrong. This book is almost entirely new information, with copious new information, research, data and inferences. I suppose the book is solid summary of all the reasonably current information you might glean online from various sources. And, Valve amplifiers is nicely arranged and easy to follow. Wow ! THIS is a terrific read ! ... show more

  • My favorite electronics textbook
It's more of an advanced hobbyist's book, but it's packed with helpful information. I have other good books, like "The Art of Electronics," but Morgan's book will get you grokking those strange tube circuits in no time. Horowitz and Hill's AoE is a monumental achievement, but you'll grasp elements of that encyclopedic tome in ant-sized bites if you're like me. Morgan's book is much breezier, but it still delivers the goods. I'm building an EL84 SEP amp right now. I've built solid state amps, but this is my first scratch-built tube amp and this book instills confidence that you can get the job done. ... show more

  • Valve Amplifiers, Fourth Edition by Morgan Jones
For anyone, whether novice or seasoned pro. will find this book informative and educational. Though some-what biased; As a novice/hobby tinkerer, I was drawn into the book at ach page and wanted to build the smallest circuit just to get a feel for what I have learned! Great reading, easy to follow clear instruction and schematics. I would HIGHLY recommend purchasing this book for anyone who may be interested in seeing how a simple circuit like home thermostat to that garage sale (radio/stereo) find! Valve are a simple ground level audio devices that a novice like myself can easily follow! Highly recommended!!!! ... show more

  • I wish I had this book decades ago.
I wish I had this book decades ago. It covers everything from internals of tubes/valves to circuit design. I have an EE degree and we learned some design, but not practical problems. It also covers some transistor circuits.

  • dense and incomplete
I love Morgan Jone's Valve books. He writes in a very clear manner and explains with basic algebra all the material. I do wish he would describe in detail some of the things he mentions in passing. On one page he describes using a CCS as the bias for a push pull class A output stage, then no further mention of it is made. No details of how the terms Anode to Anode Rp of an output transformer is defined or calculated. a Glossary and a list of equivalent European Vs American part numbers would have been nice. But. With all that, and more. This is the best book out for Vacuum tube audio. Buy it, you will learn lots. ... show more

  • Super detailed
This is the best in depth book anyone has written before. If you want to know anything about valve amplifiers this is the best source.

  • This book on vacuum tubes is as necessary as air to breath.
This classic is updated and truly one of the most useful vacuum tube engineering books I've ever owned. The math is clearly presented and easy to refer to as needed. The discussions of dynamic range, noise and distortion have just enough depth to be useful during a real design effort. Don't know how I'd previously missed owning such a great book. ... show more
