Description

Travel through the decades, watching the development of a company and an industry in this recently published book from ASAE. Authors Ralph Baumheckel and Kent Borghoff tell the entire IH tractor history from the first traction engine in 1906 until the last 5488 all-wheel-drive tractor rolled off the line on May 14, 1985. The story doesnt end with the tractors, in fact it is just the beginning. Now you can discover for yourself about the implements and combines that IH produced to make the farmers job easier. These products help illustrate the incredible tale of this legendary company. This book is filled with color. Nearly one-fourth of the over 800 photos are featured in full color. A special aspect of this book, which makes it truly a one-of-a-kind, is that many of the photos came from IH retirees. These never-before published photos give a unique insight into the company that only former employees and their experiences can provide. A detailed appendix is included to give collectors something to sink their teeth into. This high quality book will enjoy a prominent spot on your coffee table or bookcase. Read more Read less

  • "Required reading for I H collectors and affectionados"
I was raised on I H's research farm where most of their tractors and machinery were tested. I actually lived in the white house that is on the left side of the paper jacket for several years. This book is a really clear, and easy to read history of the company, and it's products, from Cyrus McCormick up through 1985. Thanks Ralph. ... show more

  • Excellent
My husband is into restoring old International farm equipment and it is very hard to find info for them. This book covers tractors AND equipment. Excellent resource and organized in a way that makes it easy to use.

The book is excellent! Unfortunately the person I bought it for already has it. :( The problem with this book was the vendor who shipped it. They have been very uncooperative in refunding my $90 for this book (which I found out later was double the price NEW copies were going for with other vendors!) They now have the book back and my money and are not responding to my emails! Beware of anything connected to Trebronics!! See this blog for more examples of their dishonest practices! • The History of International Harvester
This book is an excellent history on IH. It is the best one that I have seen. Unlike many books on tractors, this does not stop in about 1960 but covers IH to the end of the independent company in 1985. It goes to the latest prototypes that were never produced. It has detailed history of the corporate decisions of IH. There are many color pictures also. This is truly the definitive history of IH. ... show more
