  • Good looking, works well too!
Style: 6 Gal 3PHP Vac
Now I've got the best looking shop vacuum in the neighborhood, and I have a degree of flexibility which I never had before. One of the nice features of this shop vacuum is the variety of filters available. I bought (and reviewed) the HEPA filter for some indoor tile sawing which I needed to do, and I purchased a sawdust filter for working in my garage. My old shop vacuum would spew out great clouds of dust whenever I had to vacuum up something fine, like ashes. Not this one; slap in the HEPA filter and all is well. It can also be equipped with bags, something which I haven't tried out yet. My last shop vacuum sounded like a 747 at takeoff. The Vacmaster, while not exactly soothing, is a lot less likely to wake the dead. Suction is fine as well, once again trouncing my old unit. Some reviewers had issues with the cord length. I thought the cord was about right. For quick jobs in a smallish area, the cord is plenty long for me to just find an outlet and plug it in. For larger problems I break out my impressive collection of extension cords. The hose is OK, but a bit stiff feeling to me. I wish the hose was a little larger in diameter as well. So far the Vacmaster does not have a tendency to tip over. One final consideration for me was the electrical current draw on this unit. It's tempting to go out and buy the biggest, most powerful shop vacuum on the planet, but there is a significant drawback to that approach as well. One of the many needs the Vacumaster will fill is that it will be hooked up to the dust port which can be found on many of my power tools. Our garage is also a workshop, storage room, and laundry center. For reasons which escape me, my wife doesn't like her clean clothes covered with saw dust. A large, industrial shop vacuum cleaner may have more suction, but I have limited power available in my garage. If I try to run a 6 HP shop vacuum, overhead lights, and my table saw, I will soon be making the long trek over to the circuit breakers, located outside (bad idea) and at the opposite extreme of the house. So I was looking for a shop vacuum which was easy on the power consumption. For the money, I thought this turned out to be a very good purchase, and as an added bonus, it looks good in my garage / storage room / work shop / laundry room. ... show more

  • Surprisingly Great. Lightweight and does the job.
Style: 6 Gal 3PHP Vac
I've had this for 3.5 years now. I had a very large (got an even better deal on a bigger one about 15 years ago) Shop-Vac. It was way too big for our needs. I'm not good at fixing things and our garage is unattached so I don't keep it as clean as I might for an attached garage. We use our shop-vac mostly in our house for doing the stairs, for vacuuming cement basement floor, and for cleaning up dirtier jobs. We also use it for our vehicles. This thing came and it is quite small and very light. I was skeptical. The wand or the hose that isn't flexible is still quite flexible or flimsy feeling. I was skeptical that it would work well. However, it has really been great. I love that my 9 year old son can use it to vacuum 2 flights of stairs by himself without any help. The attachments don't always stay on the vacuum as well as they should but that's not a deal breaker. The cord for plugging it in is not very long, but I always used my extension cord with my shop-vac so that hasn't changed. I have the filter and the dust bag and am very pleased. It does a great job on all the household messes we've tried to clean up. It doesn't take up a ton of space and is very lightweight. I don't love the slider on the wand - it covers a hole - I think it's there to release suction so it's easier to remove the hose while it's on... Don't know why it's there (I don't care enough to look it up). That hole easily gets opened - so I just covered it with duct tape a few years ago and it's great. I have used it to pick up water - and it worked just fine. I use it every week and have not had one problem. I feel like I clean the filter less often that in my old one. I can't say enough good things about it - I think that every time I use it. ... show more

  • Good Enough for My Use
Style: 5 Gal 3 PHP Vac
This is a good little vacuum and works well for the most part. The suction is pretty good but not as good as the larger vacuums or some of the more costly brands. I find using the noise reducer seems to lessen the suction so I just leave it off - I'm used to the louder larger size anyway. Its light weight enough to easy pull about and surprisingly only seems to tip over on the rougher surfaces or if you pull quickly/hard on the hose. The smaller size tubes and hoses means that you will probably be flexing the tubes a little when you vacuum with both long tubes being used and you'll have to hand pick up some of the larger debris as it won't pass through the vacuum attachment. If you are using this for a car you will definitely miss a crevice tool - I just bought one. However, my biggest issue was the top kept coming off until I put a pipe holder onto each side fastener (see picture). And I have a pitbull mix which has short hairs that are like mini-harpoons that stick into the seat covers - so they are difficult to vacuum out with any vacuum - but with or without any attachment a thorough vacuum gets a little more the 50% of the hairs which is very good but not great. ... show more
