  • Solid hub
Size: 0.5ft Color: Space Grey
As a person whose computer has only USB-C ports, and owns a lot of USB-A storage devices, I sometimes need to be able to plug in multiple devices. I've had the best results with the Syntech hub, which has four USB-A ports that can be plugged into a single USB-C port. And if you have a USB-A port on your computer or other devices, it comes with an adaptor that allows it to plug in to that. I've had good overall experiences with Syntech - I've bought multiple hubs and adaptors from them, and each one has been satisfactory and long-lasting. If you're wondering why I've bought more than one, it's because I keep losing them. Problems? Occasionally a flash drive plugged into one of the ports won't show up. Just take it out, blow some compressed air on the drive and ports, and try plugging it in again. If that doesn't work, try another port. ... show more

  • Good performance and value
I have a MacBook Pro with USB-C ports and a windows computer with USB-A ports and needed a USB Hub that would work with both at USB 3 speeds at a reasonable price. When Syntech offered me their 4 Port USB 3.0 Hub with USB A to USB C adapter to review, I jumped at the chance. I have some other Syntech adapters and have not had any problems with them. They say this USB hub is not intended to charge USB devices. I checked it with two iPhones and it provided about 0.5 amps at 5VDC to both at the same time. This caused the Hub to get warm (not hot) to the touch so I guess, don’t try to charge with it for hours. I connected a wired keyboard and mouse in series on one port. This combination didn’t draw enough current to show up on my meter. They both worked fine. No heating. Normal USB loads are not going to be a problem. So much for that but I needed to test it at speed. I attached my USB powered DVD player/recorder to one port and my UBS powered WD MY Passport for Mac disk drive to another port. I loaded The Martian (with Matt Damon) and started it playing. While it was running, I moved files to and from the MacBook. File transfers seemed to be as fast as normal and no interference to the movie playing. The DVD player was pulling about 0.29 amps and the Disk was about 0.4 amps max (depending on what operation it was doing). I watched the movie all the way through so the adapter had plenty of time to mess up if it was going to. Speeds seems to be ok and no noticeable heating of the Hub. These test were done on the MacBook using a USB C port. Your results may vary. If you are using it on a USB A port computer, you have a USB A to C adapter to use somewhere else for free. I have three of the Syntech USB A to C adapters I have used to connect individual USB A devices to the MacBook. They work well but that approach uses up one C port for just one USB A device. This adapter only uses one C port and gives me 4 USB A 3.0 ports at once. Winner! ... show more

  • Syntech remains the best bang for the buck.
I have been happily using Syntech’s USB adaptors since my first USB-C Macbook, so I was happy when I went looking for a hub and saw that they were making ont. Very simply, if you are in need of a small usb hub, you can't go wrong with this one. Since receiving it I have had it humming away pulling data with an adapter to an old SATA drive over to a more modern usb drive, while simultaneously using it for both a headset and camera for video conferencing. The continuous copy has had no ill effect on the web conferencing, and things are as happy as can be, and transfer rates are as reasonable as expected given the SATA. With the other ports on my laptop occupied with old-school keyboard, video out, and power I am thrilled to not have to copy to my internal, then swap drives and copy back out. The unit comes with one of the USB-C adapters I have been using for years now, and I am happy to have another as they are much better than the others I have. As usual, Syntech has used high quality materials: good length braided cable and I appreciate the velcro keeper, metal (aluminum?) housing on the adapter and usb port. I would I would like to see the hub housing be metal instead of plastic as well, bu since this is destined for my desk and not my pack I don't expect it will ever be an issue as far as durability. As others have mentioned, this is an unpowered hub and so is not going to charge your phone for you but, again, this is not something I personally need it to do anyway. Anyway, as long as Syntech keeps putting out accessories like this one, I will happily keep looking at their products before anyone else's ... show more

  • Nice streamlined hub
Size: 0.5ft Color: Space Grey
Just the thing to transition from traditional USB to C. Four USB slots is just about right - not too few, but not to many either. Seems solidly made and it's working fine so far.
