This works perfectly on the edge of my desk. I'm not sure it would work so well on thinner material (or particle board)... but my desk is solid wood and it's just over 1 inch thick. For my application it's perfect.

Product works nice for me. Now I can plug in my keyboard and mouse in the front of my desk, while keeping the PC far away on the other end of the desk. And I didn't have to drill into the desk or rely on crappy adhesive and it's not in the way of my chair and doesn't take up any extra space on the desk. Even with a 10 foot (and I tested a 15 foot cable as well) usb3.0 extension cable, the unit works well. I tested a usb 3.0 flash drive and usb3.0 SSD and both worked at the same speeds (with the included cable and using a 15/10 foot extension cable) compared to plugging them directly into the USB3.0 ports on the PC. But in regards to using extension cables, one usb port on the front of my PC had slowed speeds for some reason (while when using the included cable, speeds were normal), but those ports have added cabling that goes to the motherboard, so maybe that caused an issue (I'm not sure, just speculating) or something is different/wrong with that port. What didn't work was trying to use a MyPassport HDD. Those drives apparently use all the amperage supplied by a USB3.0 port and since this hub doesn't supply its own power, I believe it divides the 1 amp that the main port gets and divides them to 250mA for each port (because I tried just plugging in the HDD to see if it would get the full amperage and it didn't). So if you are using an HDD with USB3.0 that isn't powered separately, it won't work or will transfers files very slowly (in my case). But SSDs/flash-drives use very little power and will have no problem with this. Also because that 1 amp is probably divided, using these for charging is not a good idea. Best to get a USB power adapter with QC and charge with that. 1 star off for not supplying full power to each USB 3.0 port. ... show more

    • The USB hub works well and is easy to clamp onto a desk.
I purchased 2 of these and they both are doing great. I like that fact it si metal and not plastic. I clamped them to the side of my desk and the long USB cable makes it easy to reach my monitor if I want to move the hub. Very happy with this product.
