update 6 december 2022. after a few months i notice that it does actually slide around a bit more than is ideal, but tbh my old one slid around about as much and it had spikes, so i'm not sure it's a product issue as much as it is a thick carpet issue. the surface has become a bit scuffed in heavy use areas, but it's impossible to see unless i look at that one angle where the light hits it just so. my carpet pattern is kinda noisy though, so it might be more visible on a darker, more solid surface like hardwood. i'm not crazy about the scuff marks, but due to the feel and finish of the material i think they're within my expectations. the mat has not dented one bit; aside from the invisible scuffs, it is completely undamaged and remains a solid and sturdy plastic board. i can sometimes hear the carpet compress underneath it and it makes a funny sound but it doesn't have any noticable give. i am not crazy about the price tag, but at the same time trying to find one of these that works is such a frustrating process and i'm glad it's over. i'd gladly pay $69.99 (looks like it's gone up a few bucks...) again if i needed to, but i'm confident i won't unless i intentionally try to snap this thing in half. hope your experience is as good as mine! - purchased 3 october 2022 - SHIPS FLAT - no studs/spikes on the bottom - works on 1/2" pile carpet - very clear, very sturdy, not too slippery shopping for these things is the worst. the reviews are all bad for all of them. i bought two from kuyal and they were awful to unroll. i cut myself on the dumb fking spikes so many times. both "thick carpet mats" were soft enough that my chair was getting stuck in divots. me + the chair are ~200lb. this mat is made of very clear and sturdy plastic. the edges are a little sharp, but it sinks into the 1/2" carpet enough that i don't expect it to be a problem. if it does, i have a sander. at first i was worried that it didn't have any studs or spikes, but somehow that's not an issue. i really can't move it intentionally while i'm sitting, even if i try to use the wall as leverage. don't forget to peel the film off both sides -- very satisfying. the surface provides a pleasant amount of resistance to my chair moving around without being at all slippery. stepping on it with bare feet, it kinda feels like glass with a tiny amount of give. after spending a total of probably six hours trying to find a stupid plastic mat for my chair i am relieved to be done. this was a little expensive but worth it just to be finished. i literally just unboxed it; these are my initial impressions. i'll update my review if it cracks. ... show more

After reading many reviews about this product, I decided to order it and am not disappointed. I use it on low pile carpet, but I think it would work well on medium pile, as well. In fact, it's everything and more: easy to carry, light weight yet sturdy, withstands my plus size frame (the 1400-lb pressure tolerance should easily hold even more weight density than my 240 lbs), clear without the cloudy texture and visible prongs that other mats have (there are none!), laid flat immediately--no unfurling. The 47" x 40" dimensions allow me to roll around without my chair rolling off the mat edge, which otherwise can be a lower back hazard. I've only had it a week, so time will tell how it holds up, but it appears to be well worth the price. I like the idea it has a 12-month warranty, although repackaging it could be tricky. Traditional mats tend to dent and eventually crack under chair wheels on carpet within a month or so. I don't see that happening with this sturdy PVC/PET (?) version. Also, it was fortunate I was forewarned in the reviews about the edges, as they are, indeed, sharp. A bit pricey at $81 but a good value since replacing it will be far in the future, if at all. ... show more

Like many others, during the COVID lockdown I began working remotely and needed to build a home office. The kids are all grown and moved out on their own now, so we turned our daughter's room into an office/spare bedroom. We redeorated, painted and got new carpeting. I was looking for a carpet protector but didn't want one of those thin plastic carpet protectors with the spikes on the bottom - been there, done that, and it seems like those get discolored, crack easily and don't last long. I saw this one and it looked thick enough. It had overall great reviews and the description said it was more durable than tempered glass and can withstand up to 1200 pounds of pressure. I'm not a small man, but nowhere even remotely close to 1200 pounds! So I bought one, and it was really great! It was crystal clear, the carpet looked great underneath, and my chair rolled on it perfectly. It didn't seem to scuff with my chair rollers and I was very happy with it. One thing I found was it did tend to move around a bit on the carpet - not really noticeably while sitting on it, but over the course of a few hours I would look and it has moved away from the desk a couple inches. I just moved it back in place and it didn't bother me. One day I was sitting down and dropped something on the floor and bent down to pick it up and I heard a sound like something had snapped. I looked around and didn't see anything and didn't think much about it. A bit later I heard it again and that's when I saw a small crack developing in the floor protector. It had been about 6 months since I bought it so I was not able to return it to Amazon. I tried to contact the seller since the product description said it came with a 12 month warranty, but I could not find the contact information for the seller. I called Amazon and they agreed to let me return it after all and I ordered a new one. Same experience - it worked well and everything was fine...again for about 6 months. The floor protector cracked again, and this time it was much more noticeable. I decided just to keep it because the cracks didn't seem to affect the chair rolling on it and I didn't want the hassle of trying to return it again, especially since when I returned the first one I had to pack it in cardboard before the UPS store would send it, since this is solid and doesn't fold up. Well, the cracks over the past couple weeks have gotten worse so I'm going to have to find something else. Overall it seems like most people have had great experiences with this product, and so did I for a while. Too bad it didn't last for as long as I hoped. ... show more

I wish I would have purchased this item prior to the last dozen or so plastic mats with the spikes that i have gone through in the last 23 years. This is so nice!.Fits perfect under my desk area.So smooth and doesn't indent into the carpet at all. Those plastic ones always split everywhere and would just get to be a mess.I don't see that happening with this mat. It's thick hard plastic or plexiglass maybe. Very nice indeed.Looks nice too. It's well worth spending a little more for. I highly recommend to everyone looking for a nice,durable,smooth mat for carpet. ... show more
