I tried the Umidigi Power 5 as a potential upgrade from a phone of similar dimensions and specs that cost 3-4x the price of this one due to being from a well-known manufacturer. I was immediately impressed by the lightness and thinness of this phone. Setting it up and using it I am also convinced that it is a solid choice for certain specific shopping needs. Those being: you are on a tight budget and can't afford a flagship phone and your cell provider isn't offering any "free with plan" phones. This is clearly not a flagship quality phone. I'd say it's even a step below many of the "free with activation" phones (the ones that are reduced-spec versions of flagship phones) from major carriers; but SEVERAL notches better than "burner" smartphones you can buy over the counter and add prepaid minutes to. The screen is large and responsive. There are several cameras with some enhanced capabilities (though you won't be shooting cinema grade video or night vision photos). Generally the phone is fast and capable of everyday tasks - browsing, email, texts, calls, camera - without getting ridiculously laggy for just basic tasks. In this way it is better than several other "unknown brand" phones that I've seen. Other things I like: - Decent USB-C charger included - Clear protective case and plastic screen protector pre-installed (the screen protector has more friction than glass which may annoy you if you're an avid swiper) - LOOOVE the multifunction button, you can program a single tap, double tap, or hold, to do specific tasks. Like... Turn on the flashlight, camera, IR thermometer, or other apps you may want to launch in a hurry. - Not a lot of bloatware installed. All preloaded apps are reasonable or removable. Things that I don't love: - The provided OS only goes to Android 11. Other phones are up to v13 now. This may limit some newer features and even certain apps from being installable. - There is a "Serif" font on many of the main menus with no way to change it. I think a Serif font looks so strange on a phone UI. For those two issues, you could change either the Launcher or the entire Android OS - but most people won't want to do that. - The IR thermometer is very hard to get a proper forehead reading, and I don't think it's very reliable when it does. It keeps changing by up to half a degree at a time and that's too much of a range to be acceptable for any kind of healthcare use. Seems like more of a gimmick. It does not have 5G connectivity (4G only) and lacks NFC (tap to pay), wireless charging, and Face ID. Many phones at this tier don't. It does have a fingerprint sensor that works quickly but feels... I don't know, loose? Like a spring-clip button that may unclip sooner than I'd want to be done with the phone. Time will tell. It is listed as "water resistant" but I assume that just means a light rain, NOT big spills or submersion. Overall - this is a "you get what you pay for" which is a smartphone to het you through your day-to-day. If you don't need cutting edge tech, fast paced 3D gaming, live-streaming with filters, or power-intensive apps, and don't want to spend more on a leading brand, this Umidigi phone is a solid choice. ... show more

    • Doesn't work
We were able to connect the phone to T-Mobile but not verizon. However the phone stopped working after 2 days. We were unable to make outgoing calls and it kept having us reset all of our passwords. Attempted to return it but was past the window.

    • Can't seem to get a certain app to work
First off, this looks nice and includes both a protector and cover, which is great as I wouldn't know what size to order. The specific reason I got this though was so that my husband can use it to run Android Auto for navigation using his regular cell phone as a hot spot. He has the app and even reinstalled it and can't get it to work. Other features seem as to be expected. Probably a 4 if my purpose was different, but really a 2 because it is not useful to use, so I'm averaging it out at a 3. ... show more

    • Simple straight forward cell phone
I ordered this cell phone for my mother, who is a senior citizen and who isn't tech-savvy. She just needed a phone without all of the gadgets, bells and whistles. In other words, she needed something that she could easily dial out on, and receive calls. This phone hands down meets all of her needs. If you're looking for a simple phone, and you don't care about the quality of the camera, having tons of space/storage, etc. Then this phone is worth the try.     • Pretty good inexpensive Andriod phone
This phone runs an older version of Andriod (Andriod 11), so beware that it's an older OS. But it does work. And we've actually been pleasantly surprised at how well it works. In the first week of heavy usage (my wife uses her phone a lot), it seems like apps are running smoothly. Pros: *Inexpensive. This is a functional Android phone for a remarkably low price. *It comes with a suitable case. And it's held up to a couple good drops already. *Battery seems quite good. My wife gets a full day out of it even with heavy use. *Runs all the apps we've needed it to. *Camera seems adequate. And it does have both rear-facing and front-facing cameras. Middling quality, but not bad. *Random and interesting extra feature: the phone has a thermometer along with the LED and camera lenses, so you can use this phone to take someone's temperature, and it seems pretty accurate. (Maybe this was a COVID-era feature?) *The side fingerprint sensor works really well. It's in a pretty convenient spot, and it seems very responsive, and it even works with sweaty fingers. It's been a pleasant surprise, and it's been better than my wife's two previous Motorola phones. Cons: *We've had issues with voicemail. We're on Verizon, and this apparently isn't compatible with Verizon Visual Voicemail. *There's no swipe up to see all your apps in alphabetical order. Your apps just go on the home screens, so to find something, you either need to locate it or do a Google search to find it. That's pretty annoying. If you use a lot of different apps, that could become a significant annoyance. *Old version of Android. This runs Android 11, which is already a few years out of date. So right out of the box you'll be a few years behind newer Android phones. *Facial recognition for unlock works intermittently, and generally not very well. ... show more
