This rod is one of the best rods under $50. It is also virtually indestructible. However, that comes at a price. The rod is pretty strong, and especially light. However it lacks sensitivity, and runs a bit heavy. My ultralight Ugly Stik Elite is more like a light, and my medium heavy is almost a heavy. I returned the ultralight ugly stik, because sensitivity is key. The medium heavy ones I kept and am very happy with, because they are mostly for bottom fishing and for using some heavy lures. That is why I say the Ugly Stik Elite should only be bought in Medium or Medium Heavy varieties, for bigger fish, where it is simply the best rod for the price range. Medium and Medium Heavy Ugly Stik elites can catch carp, catfish, big bass, pike, and musky. However, this leaves a gap. The Ugly Stiks are too stiff and heavy for fish such as panfish, trout, crappie, and bass, and will offer you a poor experience. For those kinds of fish, nothing beats a Berkley Lightning Rod Spinning ($35). Extremely light, sensitive, and surprisingly durable. It runs a tad light so it's geared towards smaller fish. Overall, this is the best rod in the price range for bigger fish. The lighter versions of the Ugly Stik Elite aren't that good. However, this rod excels when durability is key. For a beater rod, or a rod going to be subject to bad conditions, nothing beats this. ... show more

    • Hard to beat an ugly stick for both salt and freshwater.
Bought for grandson’s first bass rod since the rods are both durable and adaptable to all kinds of fishing from fresh to salt water. Paired with a Penn spinfisher VI 2500 reel w/ 15# braid.

    • Great rod
I bought the medium-heavy 7ft. Very nice rod. Composite materials mean it's very durable and very sensitive. I can finesse the line nicely, use many different presentations of bait. Can cast right on a dime to get into those nice spots between trees, cover, lily pads, etc. Sensitivity is amazing, can feel every little snag against weeds and rocks and eventually you get the feel for it so you just learn to keep reeling gently and almost never snag grass. Have used this for catching bullhead and trout in a rod holder just watching the tip for twitches, shows every little bite. You still get some nice fights, but the rod always lets you bring it in. Only had it since the start of the season and caught a few trout, a dozen or so bullhead, a few largemouth (including my personal best at 20in). Highly recommend. ... show more

UPDATE: Glad to see seller has updated the info within the listing to be correct with what you get. Sorta upset about this purchase from this seller. I purchased this item specifically because it's supposed to be a 2pc rod and withing the action and lure weight I specifically needed in a rod....as said multiple times throughout the info description etc this is a 2pc rod being sold. It is NOT a 2pc rod but a ONE PIECE rod. It's almost physically impossible for me to get to a lot of my fishing areas with a 7ft one piece rod. 2pc is doable but I've tried 6ft one pieces and struggled greatly. The thing I do not get is that I received 2 fishing rods when nothing is mentioned about 2 rods being sold in this add. So where as I'm not sure if I can complain I got 2 rods withing the actions and weight I needed but the fact I can't use them in over half of my fishing spots is extremely upsetting. I needed that 2pc rod and so on that note I can't help but be highly peeved....I needed this rod this weekend as a replacement to a different rod I broke pulling in an unexpected hawg. Really wish the seller was honest in the info they put into their selling and at this point I should have just purchased locally and now will end up spending more money to do so in the end. Overall the rod itself appears to be of decent construction but I can't speak on how it handles. These rods I feel would be good pond and open river rods but sadly I don't have a boat and going through woods to get to secluded bank spots. Wish I could give more than one star review but I can't give a good rating because of the false advertising within about the rod being a 2piece rod. ... show more
