The first time I unsnapped the base and put it back the glass globe came out of position and I could not figure out why the glass was crocked until I disassembled it and looked. You must be careful when reinstalling the candles and base into unit or it gets off. The top metal gets HOT quickly! Do not touch when you change candles. The glass does not slide down like the single candle lantern, that makes lighting the candles easy, but not the three candle lantern. Makes this one seem cheap to me. UCO could do better or lower the price to match the quality. Are you listening UCO? UPDATE: I have used the lantern twice now and it leaks wax badly. The wax that leaks out of the holder into the plastic bottom. My opinion is poor quality as this problem is fixable by manufacturer. I can't use heat or fame to melt wax as the bottom part is plastic. the bottom is very irregular and hard to clean. I will try the freezer, hope it makes the wax brittle and easy to break off. This part should be metal, again for the price the quality is lacking. The price of the replacement candles is high by twice and they are a odd size so not readily available. I did find plumber candles that fit but you must buy in bulk and the cost is more than I want to spend on the problem child. So bit the bullet and buy their overpriced candles. I do not find it a useful emergency light source. It is a good heat source the 3 candles put out some heat. As long as you don't mind the mess of wax. I do not recommend it. I have found the small kerosene lanterns to be better. That is my recommendation. Thanks UPDATE 2: I figured out that if I heat a tub of water for 1.5 to 2.0 minutes in the microwave and put the contaminated base into hot water it will melt the wax overflow. This makes the base reasonably clean of the leaked wax without alot of toil. Also, I have been experimenting with making my own candles to save money. The harder the wax the less leakage. Soy wax is too soft, paraffin is better and beeswax is best but expensive. I will try a mix of beeswax, carnauba, and paraffin that should result in less leakage and longer burn time. Next, I think to add teflon sheets to the candle pusher base to provide a better seal. AGAIN, I should not have to dream up improvements to this product to make it functional. It should be made fit for the intended use from the factory! I have seen video of oil conversions, but if you are camping carrying a liquid fuel bottle can be a problem, as well as, the alteration to make it safe to use lamp oil. I can't say enough good thing about these "candle under glass" heaters...power was lost during a really bad ice storm and the energy company were estimating 3 days to be without. All my neighbors bugged out and I had somewhere I coulda gone, but I hunkered down with these gems and I was warm enough in my livingroom and when I went to bed I brought 3 in my room grabbed an extra blanket and slept soooo well and I actually woke up too warm! The candles were still burning and when I woke up, the power was back on. Keep these on hand..seriously! They are game changers. For the price...can you put a price on not freezing? The candles burn for a good 8-10 hours and you can even warm up a cup of your choice of drinks by setting the mug on top. You're kept warm inside and out! The glass and metal get really hot so I wouldn't leave a small child unsupervised when using these. ... show more

I love all my UCO products, but this (and the color) are my fave. I get the long burning beewax candles from my farmers marketing. Highly recommend this product for many handy uses and get beeswax candles. They are also available here on Amazon. The warm glow and the comforting fragrance make all the difference. This is a nice lantern. The overall build of the lantern is thinner, feels weaker than i expected for the price. It is very light weight. I have not used it and will update this review once I do. I did change the paraffin candles out with beeswax candles. The change out was easy but as mentioned above the build is not as rugged, solid as i would have expected but had no issue's. I've read multiple reviews that said the paraffin candles dripped and made a mess and others that said the beeswax candles did the same thing. Beeswax makes the most sense to me and i believe will be less messy, last longer and burn hotter. If people had issues with the beeswax i can only imagine they were swinging and moving the lantern quickly. I like the design of this lantern. Its light, simple, nothing ive seen out there like it. I know this will be there when i need it. I will update when i do finally use it. In short, nice design, material thin and feels a little fragil but simple to use. A bit pricey for what you get but nothing like it for the price point. Overall happy i purchased and know it will come in handy in an emergency or when i do go camping again. 4 Stars just because I expected a thicker gauge material. ... show more

Unit will generate some local heat, be careful where you place it. In winter, use of a hemispherical shield could turn this into a small room heater. As with any live flame source, it does consume oxygen and produces carbon dioxide and other by products. Ventilate and live. My house has enough drafts in it I need not worry. 😄 ... show more

    • A struggle to assemble

It came on time. The heat shield has lopsided as one of the legs had came out of the slot due to too short of locking piece you bend to keep it in slot. I changed out the regular candles for beeswax ones. Totally struggled with the spring to allow it to set back into the locking position. If you have to replace one candle it is easier to remove all and put them back into locking position. I found it easiest to gently press down on the candle tube and spin the black plastic base to get it into locking. Not the easiest as far as changing candles. Has great light.i will be using mine as emergency light and a way to warm up food since my house is total electric. ... show more
