  • Amazing little lantern that warms tent during winter
Color: Green
This lantern I saw on a video in which the camper showed the temp outside as 22 and inside his tent was 52. He was camping in North shore of MN. I had to get it to try. I tried it last night camping in about 25-27 degrees. The heat that comes off it you cant feel unless youre within inches of it. However my test was amazingly warm compared to previous winter camping trips. My gloves i was wearing were steaming off any moisture in them from the warmth of the tent. The plate on top of lanterns warms water, coffee, tea, cocoa, soup, etc. It was great when I had to tend the fire and put my coffee on top and was still warm when I grabbed it 5 mins later. The white candles claim to last 9 hours. I lit them at 9pm and they were still going at 9am! TWELVE HOURS! I actually had to blow them out as I was leaving my camp site. It cools down within minutes so was easy to pack. I also bought the neoprene case to protect it. Ive consideted buying two or three more and really get my tent really warm for winter! A must buy for anyone who like to camp in cold conditions. It truly is a massive game changer in the tent. ... show more

  • Lantern/heater
Color: Green
I needed something for heat while sleeping in the back of a suburban during a Colorado hunting season. I did not want to deal with fumes so gas heaters were not an option. I found that this lantern kept me comfortably warm when only using two candles while laying inside a sleeping bag. Temperatures were in in low 30s dropping down to the low teens at night. It basically will take the chill out of the air. If you are acclimated to Southern California climate you would probably freeze your ass off. Remember that this is a lantern and not a heater. I had always had a candle in my winter survival travel kit and figured I would give this product a try. My Heater; I placed my lantern inside a tall plastic Folgers coffee can which when finished makes the perfect storage case. I placed a sandwich bag with fish aquarium rocks roughly 3/8” tall bean bag in bottom of can so you can level lantern on an uneven surface. I than placed a 5.75” cast iron skillet over the top with a couple steel blocks roughly 1.625^2 inside pan to absorb the candle heat. Made for a soft nightlight and produced enough heat to keep me comfortable. However this will not heat the whole inside of a Suburban so I used a large bed spread and clamped it up by using clamps to the seatbelt holders and pinching it in the rear barn doors. You really need to cover up windows because all that glass acts like a chiller. The Bad; The wax from candles do leak down the sides of candle and at one time the candle did not push up to keep its seal and a lot of wax solidified around base of candle holder and actually had to light an extra candle to use as a tool to melt it free. For the most part worked well for me and am happy with how it performed. ... show more

  • Nice light, cozy nook heat, issues with candles oozing
Color: Red
I have been nerding out with these UCO candle lanterns for a month and a half, first the original single candle lantern and now the Candlelier. I've also gone deep down the rabbit hole of making my own candles. What I've learned is the Candlelier gets hotter inside than the original lantern, and it really pushes the limits of what the candles can handle. A common problem is one or more candles oozing molten wax down the tube, sometimes out the sight window. On top of that the Candlelier bottom has gaps/holes in it, causing wax to ooze all over the surface underneath. This happens most often with beeswax (homemade candles; I haven't tried UCO's beeswax candles to compare yet). High-melt paraffin wax, which I think the UCO white candles use, perform better. The beeswax just seems too soft a wax and likes to warp & swell (filling out the space in the tube under spring tension). The biggest problems happen when the pusher plate at the bottom of the candle gets stuck, either because the plate is stuck or (more common) the candle is snagged internally somewhere so it can't advance. The wick burns down below the top of the candle holder tube and eventually melts enough wax that it oozes out the sight window, quickly exposing more wick and melting it out faster. Due to the lower temps the single candle lantern has fewer problems in my experience. But the Candlelier puts off notable sideways radiant heat and can slowly heat my coffee mug, and rapidly warm my cold hands when I hold them inches above it, so I think it's worth my while to master the formulation of wax + vybar to make the Candlelier less messy and more reliable. ... show more

  • Brighter than the original single candle model
Color: Yellow
The product did what I wanted. It has a brightness level comparable to a kerosene lantern without the fumes. It is also enclosed in case of turnover ("Checked the boxes" between candles and a kerosene lantern). Used during blackouts and performs great. I will add it is also a very well made product and the price is fair. Looks good just setting around. ... show more

  • gives off a little heat and a good deal brighter than just candles
Color: Aluminum
I would enjoy this a lot more if we didn't have to pay extra for only candles they make are the only ones you can use in them. other than that they are a very good product just not as versatile as i would like.
