Description

For those radiators with transmission oil coolers, the tanks are molded using heat-resistant, high-density polymer plastic for added protection against extreme engine temperatures.   • Works as expected but one flaw
Install in my 97 Miata was easy, it only took about an hour to do. The fan holes matched perfectly and the radiator was packaged securely to prevent damage. However, due to a leak at the upper radiator hose and thermostat housing I needed to drain the system again. Even with a properly sized phillips head screw driver I successfully stripped the drain plug. Ended up needing a massive flat head to get it off. Moral of the story, the manufacturer uses soft plastic for the drain plug. Use a large flat head screw driver instead of a phillips and you will be fine. To the manufacturer, please either use better plastic for the drain plug, use a flat head slot instead of phillips, or attach a thin metal top on the plug to prevent stripping the plastic. ... show more

Solid, standard replacement radiator for 90% of 90-97 Miatas on the road. Regardless of what the Amazon car configurator says, this works on Manual and Auto cars (just ignore the trans cooler lines when installing in a manual car). If the plastic top on your Miata radiator is brown/green/yellow-ish (pic on the left side), you have a ticking time bomb on your hands. DANGER TO RADIATOR! For most street driven Miatas, this is all you need...as long as your cooling system is in good shape. The radiator in the 1990 i just bought had a 1996 sticker on it...20 years old! I'll be more than pleased to get a solid 10 out of this new one. I replaced this and every coolant hose (including the Cursed Water Plug) on the car. Many people have mentioned that these are rebranded Koyos. I did not see any mention of Koyo on the part or the box, mine was labeled "TYC | China". There are aluminum options out there for not much more, but I saw many reviews of the cheap ones springing leaks. If you are going aluminum, spend the bucks and go top shelf. I would rather spend under a Benjamin for a stock replacement and know that the tanks will wear out at some point, but I won't be hanging around waiting for it to randomly spring a leak. ... show more

  • OEM-equivalent Miata radiator suitable for track use
OEM replacement for NA8 Miatas (94-97). I read reviews of aluminum aftermarket radiators and looking at my car, there did not seem to be enough room to fit a bigger than stock radiator while retaining stock cooling fans and stock air intake hose. As I did not want to mess with fans and fitment for this car I chose to get an OEM sized radiator. This radiator comes with side mounting brackets but the locating pins must be transfered from the previous radiator. I realized this once the new radiator was already in the car and filled with coolant. Luckily there was enough room to put the locating pins on the brackets with the radiator in the car. Overall this is a solid OEM replacement radiator. Update after 6 months: this radiator was installed on a track car. The car had no issues with heat throughout the year, and I ran it through the hot months as well (June-July). To be honest I am somewhat surprised at this. Granted I only have the stock temperature gauge in the car. I do have the plastic undertray under the radiator (very important) and I check coolant levels every event. I ran mostly straight water with a splash of antifreeze for corrosion prevention in the summer. My Miata is a 97 with stock 5 speed transmission and 4.10 diff; the car does spend a fair amount of time at lower RPMs compared to, say, a 6 speed with a 4.30 diff configuration.   • Super easy installation and cool engine performance
I am not a motorhead and this was my first radiator replacement. My son teamed up with me to make it a father-son project and we knocked it out and exactly one hour. Even for a couple guys that don't crank wrenches frequently, it was a piece of cake. The earlier comments that advised keeping the rails off the original radiator were spot on. That was the best advice I could have received and after swapping the rails, everything worked perfectly. There was nothing about this radiator that caused the problem, nothing needed special attention, modification or whatever. Everything just slid in perfectly. It was actually a lot of fun and a sense of accomplishment for a couple IT guys, father and son, messing around on a Saturday afternoon. ... show more

  • Perfect Fit and Great Price
The price was too hard to pass up, so I went for this radiator. It arrived extremely well packaged, and zero damage. Time will tell how long it lasts, but I suspect it will be as long as the original (55k miles and 28 years). Since I drive it more than the original owner, it certainly won't go 28 years. After I installed it, I tested it on a long uphill run at 80 mph with 95 deg F. Temp needle never moved. ... show more

Cured my overheating issues in a 1990 Miata. Holds more coolant than the OE manual trans radiator since it's designed for an automatic & needs the extra capacity for the transmission cooler. The drain plug is a huge step down from OE - it's made out of a soft plastic and is roughly sized for a #3 Phillips bit, unlike the OE which uses a #2 (or ideally the closest JIS size). Threads are different than the OE plug so unfortunately you can't re-use it. ... show more

  • Perfect fit
Replaced the Mazda OEM red due to it going brown (known to fail). Read the reviews and took the chance. The part looks like the original, came nicely packaged in a foam case box. Just remember to use your original rad cap / or buy a new one. Also you will need to re-use the mounting hardware from the old rad to put this one in. ... show more
