Description

A bike is all you need to join this epic adventure, spanning continents and years, that will awaken your thirst for exploration. Imagine going from Canada to the southern tip of Argentina, powered by nothing but your own two legs. Pedaling through wind, rain and blistering sun until you reach the mythical Tierra del Fuego. It’s the epic adventure many dream of doing, and that photographer and travel writer Martijn Doolaard did in Two Years on a Bike. Here, his stunning photography takes us to the Californian coast, to the impenetrable jungles of Mexico, and to the ever-higher passes of the Andes. Chronicling the life of a bicycle nomad, Doolard packs his necessities into a couple of panniers and explores what it means to be at home in the world while embracing a life of minimalism. With tips along the way, Two Years on a Bike is for those who are inspired by impressive feats, and for those preparing their own bikepacking adventures. Read more

  • Beautiful Archival Quality Coffee Table Book
This book is like a work of art. Large format. Heavy. Glossy pages and beautiful photography. Superb writing and drawn illustrations. The stories are captivating. If this book won't inspire you to get on your bike and bikepack the world, then nothing will. Highly recommended.

  • Highly recomend For those, who love cycling, exploring and traveling.
An excellent book, a huge number of pages and photos. A book to watch,(as for me) with some melodia ambient music, with a cup of coffee, with friends. Dream, rethink, and perhaps plan your trip, take a step towards discovering something new. The epic work of the author's journey, video editing, and book preparation. Inspiring! I recommend. ... show more

  • Watch his YouTube videos about this ride!
The book is great. The journey is amazing, and Martijn is a very ambitious guy. He explains the journey with video clips on YouTube that really add to the overall experience of this story. I’ve ridden thousands of miles on mountain bikes but this ride of Martijn’s is really interesting and incredible. ... show more

  • Amazing large format photo travel journal (think twice before ordering direct from Amazon)
I'll start by saying think twice before you order this direct from Amazon. They don't seem to give enough resources to their packers to properly pack a large, heavy book. The book was in a much larger box than the book and only packed with a single string of some air bubbles. The book obviously slid around during shipment and punctured through the cardboard box at some point, damaging the corners and creasing the pages. This was a disappointment, since it was purchased for a gift. I ended up ordering a replacement from another seller via Amazon (shout-out to Hennessy and Ingalls for properly packing the book) and returned the Amazon shipped one. This is a real shame, since this is such a lovely book and Amazon is damaging numerous copies by poor shipping. Five star book, zero star shipping by Amazon. ... show more

  • Cruising Through Cloud Banks
This book would be an amazing life's work for most people, but Martijn is just getting warmed up. A truly great endurance rider, adventurer, photographer, cook, artist, and carpenter. How much talent can one guy have? Worth every penny.

  • Amazing photography! Amazing journaling/storytelling! Amazing presentation!
Martijn is a gifted photographer, graphic designer, storyteller and adventurer! An epic journey chronicled in a large “coffee table style” book. I’ve been a professional photographer for more than 50 years and I can attest Martijn’s ability to capture a scene is second to none. I’ve quickly perused the hundreds of pages of images and only just scratched the surface of reading the stories. I’ll enjoy hours of leisurely reading as the writer takes me on a journey from Vancouver to Patagonia. BTW…you can follow Martijn on YouTube. His adventures continue! Peace be with you. ... show more
