I've played several murder mystery games before, but usually only with about 5-6 people. This one is designed for exactly 8 people who you invite to your dinner party. So that is the main limiting condition unless you have individual players reading dialogue for maybe two characters, but that would probably be complicated. We were able to finally play the game, and it is really well-designed and enjoyable. I would mention that I didn't notice until I received it that it said for ages 18 and over, adults only. So I figured it might have profanity and things of an intimate relationship nature, maybe some murder or horror type scenes, or the use of drugs or alcohol. So at first I was disappointed because we usually involve our teen family members when we play. Before we played, since I didn't want to ruin it by looking ahead, I had a friend who wasn't playing literally read through all the scripts, and she said she didn't see a single offensive thing that a teen or even a pre-teen couldn't read. She said she saw literally no profanity, no obscene comments, nothing offensive. So maybe the adult level rating is just because the dialogue and people involved are assumed to be more typical of older players, or it's just in case of some minor comments where you might worry about potential liability - not sure. But we played with two of the players being 16 and 17, and the rest adults over 18, and it worked out fine. Everyone said they had an awesome time. I really like that there is a diverse and interesting range of characters with different professions, backgrounds, and traits, and also the writers did a great job with the scripts - the dialogue is interesting and far more engaging than I thought it would be. Everyone knew who they would play ahead of time so dressed the part, and most caught on quickly regarding how to read their lines smoothly throughout the script to keep the story flowing. Several of the players were very talented at really getting into the roles and even embellishing a little with dramatic gestures and expressions they thought fit their character. It helps to get players who have a good imagination to follow the story as it unfolds since it's spoken and not entirely visual, and especially ones who are able to read lines without difficulty so the game flows well. I would definitely recommend it, but only if you are prepared to entertain a group of exactly 8 players. ... show more

You do need to have 8 people for this party (no less, but if you have more they could participate as spectators), which utilizes some scripting to keep things flowing. I think this is great, because some people aren't as great at improv as others. It does still help if your guests can read with some flair. The host can be one of the guests or just act as host. While the game says it is for adults, it didn't have inappropriate content that kept us from having teenagers participate. The mystery is a lot of fun, particularly if you have a dramatic group of friends. The materials are well-organized, with an envelope containing host materials, a guide for the host that covers both pre-party and the night of, a sealed envelope with the clues used during the game, a guide to help you assign characters to your guests, and a booklet that each guest is given the night of the party. The booklets contain information, clues, and scripts. Host materials include awards, place cards, and invitations. You can also access the invitations online if you'd prefer to email them. Additionally, you can access videos to play for your guests instead of certain clue items being read by the host (the videos are cute, made to be part of the theming). In case you need help with planning, the host book includes decor suggestions and recipes to complete your evening (though, the fact that this takes place at Thanksgiving dinner really helps to make this more intuitive than your average murder mystery). ... show more

    • So much fun!
This kit comes with everything you need to guide you through a murder mystery dinner. I've always thought it would be fun to throw one of these dinners but wouldn't know where to start on my own. With this kit you get it all, the mystery, scripts for each guest, a guide for the host, tips to make your night even better, even a menu and magnet prizes for the "best of" in a few different categories. Granted, the magnets aren't all that impressive, but you can always add your own prize along with them. I enlisted the help of a friend to put this together, even with such well laid out plans in the guide there's still quite a bit of preparation. But you get what you put into it so I guess you can make it as simple or elaborate as you choose. My friend is so excited to do this, she's already brought in a pianist friend to add another level to the night...our own soundtrack. If you have a friend with a musical theater background like my friend does, that's the person you want helping you! We still have a while to go before the big night, but even the planning is fun and exciting. We're veering a bit from the suggested menu, mainly because I love to cook so I'm getting a little more creative with it, but it's great that they've provided not just suggested foods to serve, but given a detailed recipe to follow. We've made sure to pick guests who will wear costumes and have fun with their characters, I feel like that's kind of make or break for a game like this. Overall this kit will provide not just a night of fun and great memories on the actual dinner night, but a lot of fun planning and organizing it. And best of all I don't have to figure any of it out myself, it's all provided for me in this little box that's packed full of all I need. ... show more
