  • Better than the price.
Size: 1-6x Style: BDC-S
This uses the same tube as the Monstrum Panzer series, but is a SFP scope with a very usable reticle. For 1x it's a little busy, but for a rifle chambered in 5.56, it's not obstructing anything so much as to make it unusable. The top end of 6x is very usable at ranges this class of rifle would be effective, and if you're needing to range a target, you're probably going to already be at 6x. Past 100 yards, I'm already there, I'm in my 30s, so my eyesight hasn't degraded a lot, but I'm definitely noticing it's not what it used to be. The 1x is very close, even with my left eye being dominant the reticle is at point of aim with both eyes open after I cover my left eye. The glass clarity is not equivalent to a Vortex Razor, but the difference is so minimal that I cannot justify at all the price difference. It weighs more than a red dot sight, but less than many LPVOs. I don't have the money to engage in durability testing, but it feels like a proper scope, I'm suspecting I'd have to abuse it quite a bit. Refer to the various torture tests of Monstrum LPVOs, since this is clearly from the same factory, at the same quality tier. It absolutely is daylight bright. It stands out clearly on both the 5th and 6th brightness setting against my mounted light which is brighter than I'd like. I feel very comfortable with this being the optic on my home defense/field rifle, though I'm likely to upgrade to a Trijicon Credo in the future because that's a brand that has been tested and proven over the last few decades under serious use. However, if Triton can build up market share, I see them following the same trajectory as Vortex, and Monstrum is also a very likely contender in the budget-turned-premium race. When I bought my first Vortex optic, people were thumbing their nose at it, calling it cheap chinese junk, now they're sought after. Food for thought, don't discount the underdog who's copying the big dog's rise to dominance. In all honesty though, if you slapped the Vortex or Holosun logo on this optic, I think people would pay about $500-600 for it. ... show more

  • Nice solid entry level lpvo
Size: 1-6x Style: BDC-S
I bought this for a good friend of mine for Christmas. He has a very basic AR-15 and when I mounted this scope on his rifle, it was literally love a first sight! Everything seems quality, good optics, adjustments were very precise and bore sighting was easy. I will update later if this scope doesn't hold up, but, I think it's going to be a keeper. My buddy is very pleased with it. ... show more

  • Decent scope for the money
Size: 1-10x Style: BDC-S
Overall for the money this scope seems pretty good so far. I haven't tested it thoroughly yet. Tracking was good when sighting in, time will tell if it holds zero. Only negative I see is 1× seems like it's actually negative power. Have to turn the scope to 2 - 2.5 power to get what appears to be a true 1×. Clarity is better than I expected for the price. ... show more

  • Great optics, perfect close-target quick acquisition reticle, smooth controls, illuminated!
Size: 1-6x Style: BDC-S
This is my first Triton scope, and I am seriously impressed with it. It's a high quality, very well purpose-built scope that will serve you well. It uses BDC-S reticle, but I’d say it’s closer to a simplified Vortex’s EBR-9 MOA reticle and designed for use with 55gr .223 ammunition. This reticle is designed for the quick target acquisition in short range but can be used for medium and long-range shooting as well thanks to bullet drop and windage compensation reference. Magnification can be easily adjusted between 1x and 6x by turning the ring located on the eyepiece side, featuring a small throw lever that makes life easier. Note that this is a second focal plane scope, meaning the reticle does not zoom when you change magnification. I actually prefer FFP (first focal plane) scopes, but for LVPO SFP is okay. Also, I need to point out that 1x is not exactly 1x. Very close, but I feel it’s still a bit different. I think it's about 1.05 to 1.1. It's close enough that you can shoot with both eyes open for about 30 seconds before your vision starts to play tricks with you. This works fine for the initial engagement, but eventually you will need to close your non-dominant (support) eye during sustained fire. It's not perfect, but for about $120 bucks it's pretty damn good, and I have no problem using it with both eyes open. The scope reticle is illuminated in red only and has 6 levels of brightness. I normally do not even consider a scope that does not have illumination because it greatly limits its usability, especially in dusk and nighttime. The reticle is etched on the glass and is very sharp. While you normally don’t use illumination during the day, at the highest illumination level (6) the reticle is visible in daylight too. Note that illumination does not light up the entire reticle, only the central horseshoe and crosshair. I need to note that the brightness knob was too stiff at first but after rotating it back and forth to “break it in”, it's now fairly smooth. The scope has exceptionally clear optics and a surprisingly large field of view. I did not notice any distortions even at 6x magnification, which is fantastic. Eye relief is excellent (3.45 - 4.01 inch) and ocular focus adjustment is also available on the eyepiece end of the scope, which is great. The ocular focus and magnification rings move smoothly, which tells a lot about the build quality of the scope. Windage and elevation turrets are not too large, but large enough so you can do adjustments with your fingers and are covered by screw caps. Note that the turrets do not have zero reset unfortunately, which is okay for LVPO scope, and I did not expect to have it in a low-cost scope. There are no "leashes" that attach the turret caps to the scope body, so when they are removed for adjustment, it's very easy to drop or misplace these caps. The scope comes with a single-piece out-front cantilever mount, which is surprisingly good. I noticed that cheaper scopes usually of low quality include rings that I always throw away or give away and buy a new set of quality rings that might cost you as much as the scope itself. But this time I probably will keep this mount and actually use it on my rifle. The only thing I'm missing on this mount is QD locks. The scope features an excellent BDC-S reticle, which is laser etched and crisp and closely resembles the Vortex BDC reticle. Bullet Drop Compensating (BDC) reticles are essentially a series of reference points along the vertical axis of a reticle that relate to the bullet's flight path. The calculated trajectory is derived from the bullet type, muzzle velocity and typical environmental conditions. A built-in ranging feature provides everything the shooter needs to engage a distant target without having to do any complex calculations. This is why BDC reticles have been used for decades in tactical and sporting rifle scopes, where you need to get hits on targets quickly. Great choice! Pro-tip. While the scope's reticle is fairly complex and provides guidance for elevation or windage adjustments, you still need to zero it first. Your best bet for zeroing it is to use a laser bore sighter. Just insert it into your barrel and zero your scope's crosshair on its dot. Then on a range you can finish fine-tuning your aim at 6x magnification according to the manufacturer's guidelines. This will save you tons of ammo. Bottom line: Yes, I do recommend this Triton Mariner LVPO scope to every gun enthusiast. It has crystal clear optics, magnification from 1x to 6x, which is perfect for close quarter aiming, ocular focus, and its eye relief is outstanding. The reticle is fairly complex and highly effective BDC-S, which resembles simplified Vortex’s EBR-9 MOA reticle and is perfect for quick target acquisition and short and medium range shooting. All adjustments work smoothly, turrets are hidden under the cap, but don’t have zero stop feature. Plus, it has red illumination. For 120 bucks it is a deal you can't beat, and it even comes with a solid single-piece scope mount. Definitely a 5-star product! Pros: 1. Very rigid built overall. 2. Magnification 1x to 6x. 3. Highly effective BDC-S reticle. 4. Reticle is red illuminated. 5. Outstanding eye relief. 6. Exceptionally large field of view. 7. Has ocular focus. 8. Comes with rubber lens covers. 9. Solid cantilever mount included. 10. Argon purged and fog proof. Cons: 1. Second focal plane :(. 2. Turret caps have no leashes. 3. Turrets are not zero reset capable. ... show more
