Description

TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty is ideal for boat building and repair applications where high-strength structural bonding is critical, such as hull to deck, stringers to hull, liner to hull, and bonding bulkheads. It’s also great for bonding dissimilar composite, fiberglass, wood and metal parts. Its unique combination of high-strength polyester resin and long strand milled glass fiber provides maximum crack and impact resistance in large masses. Just bang it on in one big shot and it holds its shape well as it hardens. This fast-setting marine filler spreads smoothly, is quick to take a radius, and can be built up quickly without sagging. Perfect for fast, easy repairs to fiberglass parts, molds, hulls, decks, canoes, kayaks, runabouts, and more.Polyester Structural Repair Putty is waterproof and great for filling cracks, holes, chips and dents in fiberglass and gelcoat, above or below the waterline. This polyester putty is designed for structural bonding, not cosmetic fairing. For repairs requiring a smooth, easy-to-sand finish, apply TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound over Polyester Structural Repair Putty. After the fairing compound cures, sand smooth to prepare for gelcoat, such as TotalBoat Gelcoat with wax, or paint, such as TotalBoat Wet Edge topside paint. If you’re not overcoating the putty with fairing compound, you need to add an air-dry agent such as paraffin wax (4 oz. of wax per gallon of putty) or apply PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) over it. Putty comes with MEKP catalyst (use 1-2% MEKP). This economical, general-purpose, fiberglass filler can also be used to fill joints in sheet metal and fill cracks & voids in wood, masonry, and concrete, making it ideal for automotive, rv and home repair. Compare to Merton's Hull and Deck, 3M Marine High Strength Repair Filler, FGCI Polyester Putty, and Bondo Long Strand Fiber Reinforced Filler. All TotalBoat products provide great value and great results. 100% made in the USA.

  • Good for filling holes in fiberglass. Make sure not to overfill!
After rebuilding the back wall to repair some water damage in my rv, I reused the existing fiberglass. It had quite a few holes from where it had ripped or old screw holes. I used this structural repair putty to refill those holes and it worked amazingly. I have no doubt that the repaired areas are as strong if not stronger than the original fiberglass. The mistake I made was overfilling the holes and sanding it down after it hardened. It took about 10-15 sheets of 40 grit sandpaper on my orbital sander to sand down 8 holes I had slightly overfilled. It also doesn't sand down completely smooth (but it's pretty close) and warns on the label to use a fairing putty for that. If I did it over again I would fill the holes to about 90% and fill the rest with the fairing putty. I also want to note that I am overall happy with this putty and will purchase again if I ever need to refill any fiberglass holes. I am glad I went with this over epoxy since it has a thick goopy consistency and is so much easier to build up a hole and isn't runny. ... show more

  • Not hard or lumpy
This stuff is like iron to sand, so use some sort of fairing compound over it if you need to make it smooth. It is a little thicker but spreads easy enough with a spreader or putty knife. Not lumpy with hairy strands sticking out everywhere like other putties with 'hair' or glass fibers.
