As many have noted, the walkie talkies themselves work well. The 5 star rating here is for the recent customer support I received when one stopped working. We'd had it a few months, then stored it, and then when we got them back out one would not turn on. I did some troubleshooting but no luck. I contacted the seller using the method they outline here on this page (important!). I received a prompt reply, provided my information, and received a working replacement unit in less than a week. Color me impressed! Many product reviews are made just days after getting them. There are probably 1000s of walkie talkies you could get, and some are probably cheaper. This is a quality walkie talkie, and you should ask yourself what would you do months from now when you need the seller to stand behind the product it sold, and you're past the Amazon return period. ... show more

    • Not perfect but pretty solid overall
We bought these for our son to have so we can keep in touch with him when he's out playing with his neighborhood friends. We don't need a huge range and haven't tested it too far, but it works well for what we need. Overall I like them. They're lightweight and the lanyards haven't broken yet, which is saying something considering how rough he is! I also like that they do a little beep when you let off the button so you know it worked. It might be annoying to some people, but on our old ones, it didn't have that, and when he didn't answer, I'd wonder if what I said actually went through. But the thing that REALLY impressed me a lot is that he lost one of them out in a field near his friend's house, and they found it about 2-3 weeks later. And it still works! Just recharged it and it was good to go. So that's impressive considering it had been quite cold and had rained at least once or twice. What I don't like so much: the battery - while rechargeable, which is nice - doesn't last all that long. In our old walkie talkies, we didn't have to change the batteries for weeks of regular use. These need to be charged after a couple of days. It's not a huge deal, and maybe this is just how rechargeable batteries work, but it's weird. But they do charge fast, at least individually (I haven't tried charging more than one at a time). Also, they have a "lock" feature, but it only works to prevent the settings from changing. They can still be turned off while locked, which means we've had some frustrating situations where our son has unknowingly leaned against something and turned it off, and we can't get in touch with him. I feel like that should be changed. The settings seem kind of complicated to change, but to be fair, I haven't studied the instructions. All I really need is to be able to control the channel, so it doesn't matter too much to me! All in all, I think these are probably worth the price if the small annoyances don't bother you! ... show more

I bought the walkie talkie for my grandkids ages 2 to14 years. The sound quality was good and clear. Transmission was clearly heard in a 2 story house. Once it was is set up, the locking mechanism kept the walkie talkie from being accidently changed. It's user friendly and came in 6 bright colors. It's the perfect size for small hands, too. The clicking sound after speaking made it easy for the receiver to know when to talk. It was a plus to have the automatic shut off. The battery compartment was very difficult to open. Update: one year later, and two have difficulty charging, and the range is now less than a room's distance. I haven't contacted the company yet, though, so it's not a customer service issue. I'll update after I contact them. This is a cool set in that it comes with 3 units, so I can give one to each of my twins and keep one with me for when they are outside playing or walking to a friend's house. The sound is impressive, and the range seems to be good so far, but we haven't tested it fully. That being said, there are no instructions on the box (at least mine didn't have any), and it took me forever to figure out that the headphone jack was the charging port (perhaps it should have been obvious, because of the shape of the charger end, but I didn't even know aux ports could be used for charging, so I was looking for a separate port. So that one is possibly user error.). There are several buttons that I have no idea what they do, because, again, no instructions. These are things that might be obvious to people who have used walkies before, but my children and I had not, so it's pretty frustrating. One of the units was beeping all the time. ALL the time. Every 30 seconds or so, no joke. At first I thought it was because it needed charging, but no, it would beep fully charged too. We finally got it to stop after doing some internet searching and reading forum posts. Overall, I'd probably recommend them, but they might require a bit of patience at first. ... show more

I bought these for my son, but ended up taking them on a family road trip with multiple vehicles. They worked great and had great range. The only complaint is that (and not sure if it was user error) but either the buttons got stuck or would activate on their own so someone in one of the other cars would not know that their entire conversation was happening with everyone hearing on the other talkies. It would activate with no one pushing the buttons and would stay that way for a few minutes and then continue to come on.
