Description

The second-generation digital gauge features a rotating SmartHead and works seamlessly with Presta and Schrader valves without changing parts.     • Handy pressure gauge that has a trick to learn for consistent readings.

There is a little learning curve to using this pressure gauge. While the accuracy of the gauge is good, I have experienced cases where the gauge was wildly inaccurate as I learned how to use it for consistent readings. It is convenient to have a gauge that can read Schrader and Presta valves, although I have not used it for reading the pressure on my wheels that have Presta valves. What I have learned to get more consistent readings is to firmly press the gauge against the stem and wait a moment after the reading beep sounds before taking the gauge off the stem. When I do this, my readings are on point. If I take the gauge off right as the beep happens, I have seen the reading to be off by a great deal, in one case a 60-psi tire reads 5 psi on the gauge. Comparing this digital gauge to the numerous analog gauges I have, it is a little easier to use, and about as consistent for readings (once I "learned" the trick). ... show more

This product just does not work for high pressure tires. My target pressure is 87psi on on my 23mm tires. I fill up to over 100psi, then try to mount the gauge. With that much pressure and the finicky way it mounts onto the valve stem, it usually leaks half the pressure or more before I can get it seated. tried 50 times, maybe got it to work twice. Missed my Amazon return window because I was on vacation. Today I called Topeak and turns out they are quite familiar with the exact issue on a specific batch of these gauges. If you look in the battery compartment and the white sticker says the code "Q08 MT", this is the bad batch. The service gentleman at Topeak said they have had numerous reports all from this same batch. They have reported the issue to Taiwan already, and there will possibly be a recall. He did offer to replace for free, so I'll report back once I get that. **** follow up review. If you get a device with the sticker under the battery that says “ Q08 MT” return immediately, this is a faulty batch. Topeak replaced with a new one and it works perfectly as it’s supposed to ... show more

Love that this gauge switches between Presta and Schrader. It does let a little more air out with the Schrader values but to be honest this is always the case with Schrader gauges so I'm not sure why so many people are complaining about this, it real is just a matter of getting use to using it. I've been using an analog gauge (Joes Racing 32307) since 2104 and this gauge reads consistently 6 psi less than the Topeak. I also tested with another digital gauge (SKS Airchecker) and this gauge had approximately the same readings as the Topeak but let more air out of the tire every time it was used. I use this primarily for mountain bike tires so I'm now wondering if I have been over inflating my tire all this time. The box says that this gauge also works with MTB forks and shocks. I tried it on both, it works ok on forks but not so well on shocks. Since shocks have such small air chambers using this on a shock is completely absurd since it lets out 10 to 15 psi each time the air pressure is measured which will change the performance of the shock. ... show more

I bought the Blackburn and SKS digital gauges. They work well, for a while. Then, the seal quickly wears out and there is no way to replace it. Had either company just designed and engineered a serviceable replacement seal, they would be good gauges; however, they both also have one maddening quirk--you have to turn them off completely between pressure readings. The Topeka gauge is definitely a superior design (including a seal that either does not wear out, or hasn't in over a year of heavy use) and can be quickly reset between readings. I have used it on high pressure tube/tubeless road tires, med-low pressure tubeless gravel tires, and low pressure (tubed) fat bike tires very successfully.
