Usually I find Amazon reviews to be spot-on. Not so sure with toasters though. I bought one previously with all 5-star reviews, and I ended up returning it because it browned unevenly and the buttons (e.g., bagel) weren't programmed right. This was all 5 stars when I bought it to replace the one I returned. Well, whomever wrote the instructions lives in la-la land. It says that the '4' setting yields nice, evenly browned toast, but '4' burned the toast in mine. I ended with 2 1/2 as the optimal setting. And, the browning is decent but clearly not the same on both sides. I'm keeping it, but in retrospect, I could have done just as well running to Walmart rather than buying based on reviews with Amazon. ... show more

Love this toaster. Browns pretty evenly and exterior around slots do not get hot. Also has ability to lift handle just that extra bit to get English muffins out without touching top of toaster. Slots are wide enough for bagels, but footprint of unit is a little smaller than previous toaster, which is a plus :-) Have to look closely at temperature knob if you have multiple users because darkness indicator is not a different color than knob, so it’s not easy to see. Might put a dot of nail polish to indicate favorite setting. Cleans easily and has small removable crumb tray. ... show more

What I love about this toaster is the wide and long slots. I can fit bagels, English muffins, hamburger buns AND wide pan bread slices into it! I find that I need to have the temperature control on the lower side for the perfect toasted brown color, but once I figured that out, it has been great. My 6 year old races to get to be the one who empties the crumb tray. Our last toaster did not have that feature and I love it! This is a great value for an unbranded appliance! ... show more

This toaster is a great deal, especially for the price. We have gone through too many toasters that don't brown well or take way too long, but this one browns quickly and evenly. This toaster does not brown both sides of the bread evenly. For a while I set it on a low setting, would toast bread once, turn it around, and toast it a second time in order to get it toasted about the same on both sides. However, after I got it set to do that, the next day I toasted it in the same manner, but it burned one side of the bread. I finally gave up trying to brown it the same on both sides of the bread. I was looking for a very simple, basic toaster and this fit the bill perfectly. I've used it quite a few times and it toasts my bread just right.
