  • super cute, not sure it's gonna work
I ordered this to replace another bee house that I had had for over two years. It was all wood so the previous one has lasted, but the wood is warping now and it's starting to fall apart. This one is super cute. I like that it's made of natural products. The vibrant red on the portion that has long oval slots attracts your eyes immediately. I think it's aesthetically appealing because of the 6 different possible nesting spots for bees or other insects. It comes with a hook to hang in from if needed, but you could also hang it off a nail if you think that's more sturdy. Honestly, the only insects I attracted on my previous been houses were spiders unfortunately. I'm hopeful the metal roof will enable this one to last longer as the rain should fall off it. I'm placing it near a bush that I've seen mason bees gathering pollen and nectar from. It came with a brush to clean the tubes out and I'll have to see if cleaning them regularly makes a difference to keep spiders out which may be why bees weren't nesting in there? Even if it doesn't attract bees, it's a cute addition to the garden. Like others have mentioned this would probably make a great gift for mother's day, for an avid gardener or for someone who likes natural garden decor. ... show more

  • Functional native bee house for these important pollinators - needs a few design tweaks
This is a delightful, functional native bee house providing a variety of nesting options for solitary bee species. (The vertical slits are for butterflies or moths.) The aptly named mason bee, which plugs its nesting cavity with mud, is only one of around 950 native bees here in Colorado. The honey bee was imported to the US during the 1600's and this 'social bee' is a generalist, pollinating a variety of crops and flowers. Native bees are so important to agriculture and the ecosystem because they are specialists, pollinating certain plants and crops exclusively. The bee house is made from pine with a metal roof. The back is balsa wood, which is not very sturdy. It would be nice if the bee house came with basic instructions as to the best aspect for installation (early morning sun), cleaning the hollow reeds (a little brush is provided) and other details. It would be better if the reeds were removeable; replacements are available. There is a metal loop on the back to hang it on a hook, but then the bee house pitches forward. An added center loop would help. The other option is nailing it to a tree or post, but I prefer to be able to move it around and store it safely over the winter. This is a sweet little bee house, and providing native bee habitat is so important. Thank you! ... show more

  • Well made!
I've been looking for a bee house to encourage bees hanging out in my yard. This one is a great size and easy to hang up. I ended up using more of a hook than a nail. I did add a zip tie around the middle to make it more stable and not blow in the wind. I put it up on the chicken coop porch post. I can't wait to see who takes up residence in the house. The roof helps keep it waterproof. I like that it offers different options. At the end of the season, it provides a cleaning brush so you can clean it up and tuck it away for next year. I know it won't last forever, but it's going to last more than one or two seasons. I've already been dropping hints to my bee loving niece if she'd want one for her yard. Very happy with the quality, variety, and options in the Tihood bee house. I'd definitely buy this again and if it's super popular, I'll be back to get another one for my yard. ... show more

  • Engaging addition to our yard whether or not it attracts bees and butterflies
One of the first bright and almost warm days of spring allowed me to put up some new garden decor. I've wanted one of these bee homes for a few years and never gotten around to it. This one came and is well constructed, smells nice, and has a multitude of options for any critters to explore, tubes, doors, sawdust, wood curls, etc. It came with no instructions on best places to put it. I used the triangle hook on the back to put it onto a pruned dead twig in our shrubbery. It's visible from most of the yard so we shall see if anything uses it. Instructions would have been nice to know if adding anything (honey? water?) helps to attract the bees and how to maintain it once the initial strong odors wear off and water destroys parts. ... show more

  • Holding up well
Placed this on the edge of our garden to give a little home to the pollinators, and so far, it's holding up well. We attached it to a post, but it comes with a hook if you'd rather hang it. It has several types of homes for different types of pollinators. Like that it's all wood so it feels more inviting. ... show more

  • Cute and hopefully useful
Whether or not any pollinators take up residence in my new bee house, it makes a friendly statement in the garden. There are plenty of nooks built in to suit solitary bees, beneficial insects, and maybe even some bad bugs. There is no evidence that butterflies use butterfly houses, so I don't expect to see any hibernating in the red section. Also, honey bees don't use this type of structure to nest in. The roof is topped with a galvanized metal cover to protect the house. The sides and back are untreated, and may not last as long. As outdoor decor though, this house can bring the charm for at least a season or two. ... show more

  • Replacing a similar house, looks very smart.
I put up a similar bee house in 2020 and it’s falling apart, so I thought I should get a new one. I’m happy to replace it because you’re supposed to clean them out, but I don’t know what time of year is best and just never got around to it. I put this one where the old one was hanging on my tomato house and it looks great. I hope the bees get some use out of it as I do appreciate them in my garden. ... show more

  • Attractive Bee House
Very easy to hang on a tree with a picture type hook on the back. Looks great and is very well made. Haven’t seen any bees yet however since it’s now Spring I am sure they will come. This would be a great gift idea for the gardener or as a Mother’s Day gift.
