Description

Ticket to Ride United Kingdom Map Col 5Ticket to Ride: United Kingdom will include a double-sided game board. One side will show a map of the United Kingdom, including Great Britain and Ireland, set in the 19th Century, at the dawn of the railroad revolution. To play on this map, a completely new set of train cards are also included. A unique feature of this scenario is the introduction of Technology cards that allow players to improve the quality and sophistication of their trains during the game, allowing faster runs and longer routes. Players must use Locomotive cards to purchase the Technology cards, forcing them to decide between technological development or expanding their route network on the map. This scenario supports 2 to 4 players. The other side of the game board shows a map of Pennsylvania. Playing this scenario uses a deck of Stock Shares, representing actual historical railroads that operated in the region shown on the map. When a player completes a route on the map, they have the opportunity to "invest" in a company through the use of the Stock Shares, with control of each company awarding bonus points at the end of the game. This scenario supports 2 to 5 players.

  • An excellent addition to our Ticket to Ride Games.
My. husband and I have started having game night every Wednesday night accompanied by some wine. One of the first games we bought was Ticket to Ride and fell in love with it immediately. it was easy to play, a bit competitive and didn't require so much concentration that it ruined our wine buzz. We've since bought the 1910 Expansion Pack, Ticket to Ride Europe and the Nordic version. We thought we didn't need any more versions, but then this one sounded so interesting. I have to point out that this review is only for the Pennsylvania map, we haven't even tried the other side yet! The Pennsylvania side added shares of stock. When you complete a route, you can choose a share of stock to keep. You get points at the end of the game based on the number of shares of stock and how low your numbered stock is. It sounds like it might be confusing, but it's not at all. What makes this so fun is that you really have no idea who is going to win until the stock points are added up. Some stocks are worth more points than others and you learn to go for those first. There is no longest route bonus, so you don't have to focus on that, however there is a bonus for most completed destinations. Between that bonus and getting some good stock, you can surprisingly pull ahead at the end. We've watched some videos on how to play the United Kingdom side and it looks like it adds in several more layers, we'll probably start it soon and I'll come back and edit this review. ... show more

  • Top Tier Expansion
With the unique card deck for the UK, and the detailed but not cluttered map, the time and attention to development shows. To my mind, the second best expansion behind The Netherlands.

  • Well its what you've come to expect from days of wonder with a twist.
This game is unique in that it introduces a new method of play with the Pennsylvania map. On the Pennsylvanian map it introduces stocks which determine how many victory points you get at the end of the game. The rules are a little vague about wither or not you add up your trains that you place as well as the stocks at the end so after some debate we decided to just add up the stocks at the end which after we checked is the way that you play this particular map. Make sure you get as many stocks as you can and lay down early or you may get blocked and not be able to get to your destinations. The map of great Britain also had a unique twist in that you had to buy the ability to build trains into other countries. You start off in England but have to buy the ability to build into France, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Also you can only build 2 train spots at the beginning of the game and you must buy technologies that allow you to build longer routes and to cross water and so on. The rules were laid out pretty well however you had to constantly look back at them which made the game rather lengthy. This expansion is by far the best one that I've played so far and I have played all of them. I wouldn't spend $40 on it so if you can get it on sale like I did for $25 its worth it. If you love Ticket to Ride its a must have. If you are looking at what expansion to get for Ticket to Ride THIS IS IT! ... show more

  • USA/Europe TTR needed for game play...
This is by far my favorite TTR map. On the Pa side, you collect stocks in the railroad companies- choosing from those available along your route - points are based on the number of stocks you have in each company. This side of the board seems to go fairly quickly. The UK side of the board is what I enjoy most! The twist comes with components needed in order to play - propellers to use ferries, steam engine to collect routes of 4 or more spaces, country cards and more! The best "booster" is the one where you can draw 3 tickets at a time allowing you to collect tickets to claim routes faster. It will be a little slow going at first, trying to remember if you bought all the cards you needed to claim your routes, but it is super easy to play and before you know it you'll be on your way to France, Scotland, Wales and Ireland (and of course the UK). You will need TTR USA or Europe to play both sides of the board as you'll need the trains. The UK has their own train tickets and you'll need the USA/Europe train tickets to play the Pa side of the board. ... show more

  • Hours of Mind-tuning FUN!
Arrived yesterday and entranced the family for hours, breaking the addiction to the original Ticket to Ride. The family immediately began playing the notorious robber baron, cut-throat Pennsylvania board. We soon discovered one must diversify one's stock holdings, keep an eye on what stocks are available and how many of them are issued to competitors. Be bold and obtain segments of those routes needed quickly while not giving hints of your intended destinations away too quickly. But, one must act fast and decisively if one intends to be the CEO of the greatest conglomerate holdings of the railroads that connect Pennsylvania with connecting states and Canada. Not for the non-competitive family members who might take "umbrage" if one or more of their intended routes are cut-off! The other side of the board, the United Kingdom game is also a very interesting if not decidedly different play. We found it much slower paced as one must decide to obtain advanced technology and pay with locomotive cards, or try to complete routes without the advancement of technology. The spoiler is the route to America which can be completed with locomotives in part, but without technology and rewards a massive amount of points. This is a more cerebral game in many aspects, but still avails the player of the fun and excitement of the Ticket to Ride experience. ... show more

  • Fun expansion
Both maps are a fun change to the base game to keep things from getting stale. Pennsylvania map adds stock for completing connections between cities. UK map is more complicated and requires buying technologies to build longer routes or in other parts of the map. Both are as good as the base game, but add something new for advanced gameplay. ... show more
