Description

The Therm-a-Rest RidgeRest Classic Foam Sleeping Pad is, as its name suggests, the classic camping mattress, trusted by generations of campers and backpackers for a good night’s sleep in the great outdoors. The basic closed- cell foam design provides a ground pad option that is not only lightweight and durable, but also a great value. It rolls up compactly to fit in or strap to a backpack, and is light enough to carry almost anywhere. The foam padding is designed with supportive peaks for comfort, and heat-trapping valleys for insulation, ensuring support and warmth all night. With an R-Value of 2.0 (R-value measures the material’s ability to insulate; the higher the R-value, the warmer the sleeping pad), it’s ideal for sleeping outside in spring, summer, and fall. It also makes an excellent insulating layer, when used in combination with another Therm-a-Rest sleeping pad, for winter and snow camping. Virtually indestructible, the cross-linked polyethylene material provides protection from rocks, roots, and sharp sleeping surfaces, and ensures durability for years of use. The Therm-a-Rest RidgeRest Classic Foam Sleeping Pad is available in three sizes: Small measures 47 x 20 inches (20 x 6.5 inches rolled) and weighs 9 ounces, Regular measures 72 x 20 inches (20 x 8 inches rolled) and weighs 14 ounces, and Large measures 77 x 25 inches (25 x 8.5 inches rolled) and weighs 19 ounces. Made in the USA.

  • The best product I never knew I needed.
Style: Regular - 72 X 20 Inches
I purchased this product as a sleeping mat for my dog on a deep winter backpacking trip. I only used half the mat for that. I ended up replacing the back/ sit pad of my Gossamer Gear Meraposa pack with a section of this pad that I folded in half. That turned out to one of the best last minute decisions I've ever made. It was light weight and comfortable as a backpack pad. I slipped it under my Thermarest X-Therm sleeping pad for extra R-Value and puncture insurance while sleeping at night. Most importantly, it was a fantastic sit pad that kept my body warm and comfortable sitting or kneeling on snow, ice, frozen rock, whatever. Sometimes I would sit on my X-Therm and put my feet on the RidgeRest to keep them warm or stand on it while changing cloths. I guess that torso sized section could have served as an emergency sleeping pad if my X-Therm broke in the night. It would probably be a suck night, but I'd live. My dog was happy with it as a sleeping pad too. It's surprisingly warm for as thin as it is. ... show more

  • A SOLID mat at a great price!
Style: Regular - 72 X 20 Inches
This Therm-a-Rest is a solid mat. I used it once on a 3 night/4 day backpacking trip and it worked great! It was cold and windy at night and I definitely feel like it did help retain body heat. I've slept on your common, flat, yoga type mat that do okay for comfort but don't help as far as body heat goes. This one does! It's comfortable for me, but i can sleep just about anywhere.. a rock slab, slab of steel, most places so "comfort" isn't a major concern for me while backpacking and I was comfortable, warm, and slept well... and it's extremely light weight and durable. I backpacked in the Texas hill country/canyons and I'm definitely going to keep using it for now until it wears out. This is going back to the basics and I like that. A solid mat at a great price. ... show more

  • Wish it packed better
Style: Large - 77 X 25 Inches
Great pad. Closed cell won’t get punctured like air mats. It’s as light as an air mat. It's not as comfortable or warm. And it is bulky and awkward to pack.

  • Good for a small camp cot like I have
Style: Large - 77 X 25 Inches
The media could not be loaded. It is meant for sleeping on the ground while you are camping or hiking, or exploring in the outdoors or in the wilds, but I find that it is good to just put on my small camp cot as a "mattress." I live in a small apartment and I prefer to sleep on a small folding camp cot. This Thermarest mat just fits the cot as perfect as possible. This style of Thermarest is different from another I ordered ( from a different company) which had one side colored green and the other side was silver like aluminum foil supposedly to keep you warmer. This one the "Classic" has both sides colored gray. I like both styles but I have no if one would keep you warmer. I have not tried either for that purpose. I just used them to put on my camp cot. These mats have indentations in them and if you put them on the ground it might not do much to provide padding from the hard ground especially if you are a side sleeper, but again I have not used them for that purpose. The indentations might feel uncomfortable to certain people since the surface of the mat is not completely smooth. But I find that I am able to lie comfortably enough on the mat without putting a sheet or blanket on top of it . I don't know yet about the long term durability. It does seem it would last long if treated properly. If anyone pokes the material with a sharp object, of course it would get damaged. The material reminds me very much of the "Poly pad" that I used to have when I was in the military and which I had to use as an exercise mat. However the Thermarest is significantly better. It is a closed cell type of mat so naturally it is not like an inflatable sleeping mat. I have not gone camping with it , or not yet, but I have heard that it may be better to get a closed-cell camp mat like this Thermarest than an inflatable sleep mat because it is overall more practical. An inflatable can become completely useless once it is punctured. The Thermarest mat may not fold up compactly enough but it is lightweight and if you tie it properly with rope it should not be very hard to take it along with you tied to your rucksack. It also will not self-inflate like certain inflatable mattresses would because the valve just does not prevent accidental self-inflating. So I guess I would prefer the Thermarest foam sleeping pad to an inflatable mattress if I were to go camping but it can depend on anyone's preference or needs. Anyway , I think this mat is good. ... show more

  • If you are shopping for a sleeping pad on a budget read this
Style: Large - 77 X 25 Inches
The advantages of this style of pad are that it is indestructible, waterproof, light weight and it is inexpensive. The disadvantages of this type of pad are: one, it does not pack down and will need to be lashed to your pack. Two, it is simply not comfortable to sleep on. The padding and warmth this provides is similar to simply laying on a heavy blanket on the ground. It is better than no pad and it will protect your sleeping bag from being in direct contact with rocks and roots. Bottom line: if your budget is less than $40 and your primary concern is weight and absolute reliability this is perfect. If you can spend $40 or more and you are at all concerned about comfort buy something else. ... show more

  • Great for my needs.
Style: Large - 77 X 25 Inches
I actually got this for camping with my dogs, cut in half with no problem and under their beds it goes, keeping them warmer in cold temperatures and pretty resistant to those claws, they’re not small dogs. Foldable ones didn’t seem to resist the claws so much. I car/tent camp thus bulkiness is not much of an issue and my dogs are worth it, with the pad, bed, and their sleeping bags they’re much warmer. ... show more

Style: Large - 77 X 25 Inches
This sleeping pad worked great. It was durable during my multi day outing and was very comfortable and worked well on both incline and flat surfaces and did a good job of keepiing me warm. the reason I chose this over the smaller model is my size and this was much larger than my friends which had the regular width models. The only bad thing I can say and really it is just me being nit picky is that rolling it up takes up more room than the models that have the ability to fold up. It is also a little firmer than the lined model. ... show more
