Description

In the course of his long career as the outstanding pianist-composer of his time, Franz Liszt was a tireless champion of music by other composers, especially those whose works he felt deserved greater recognition. Beethoven's symphonies, Wagner's operas, and Schubert's songs were among the compositions Liszt chose to promote by transforming them from their original scoring into new conceptions for solo piano. This volume contains twelve great Schubert lieder in Liszt's brilliant transcriptions, including such well-known masterpieces as "Ave Maria," "Der Wanderer," "Die junge Nonne," "Gretchen am Spinnrade," and the unforgettable "Erlkönig." Reproduced from extremely rare early editions, this unique volume of transcriptions brings to pianists and music lovers the familiar beauty of Schubert's melodies in solo piano arrangements that reflect Liszt's incomparable mastery of the keyboard. • The Schubert Song Transcriptions for Solo Piano/Series I: "Ave Maria,"...
Good service, and the music was what was wanted. Thanks for your reliable delivery and large inventory. That's all she wrote!

  • Good selection of songs but questionable print quality
I bought this book because it has a particular song I wanted and couldn’t find in any other books on Amazon. Basically I had no choice and am happy to have that song, but why is this book so small (letter size), unlike other major music publishers’ such as Henle? Also, the content is in a very old, classic looking style with fuzzy notes! It looks quite historical and interesting to stare at but extremely hard to read while trying to play the music at the same time. ... show more

This music score was exactly what my son needed to sing Ave Maria at his uncle's wedding

  • Schubert-Liszt
Not quite as good as the Schirmer, but the price is very good.

  • not very good
The size is too small to read it comfortable. It's like a handmade copy from a larger version. I wouldn't recommend it.

  • Not so impressed.
I bought this book hoping that it would contain all those beautiful Schubert/Liszt songs, unfortunately several of my fav songs were missing. As far as easy-to-read and the quality of print are concerned, its a bit average. Do not expect Alfred/Schirmer/Henle quality from this publisher.

  • Highly Recommended Translation
All of the piano transcriptions by Franz Liszt have been reproduced in the quality that is typical of all the Dover Franz Liszt piano transcriptions I have seen. Lists of the pieces presented, although not found here can easily be found by doing a search before purchase so you are not disappointed and find yourself complaining after purchase. Now, getting to the popular Liszt transcription of Ave Maria: Despite the low star rating of this collection, the Ave Maria presentation is also well done; very clear; and with very black large easily readable notes. What the other reviewers may not realize is that this translation is for well trained talented concert level pianists. ... show more
