Retinol 1% in Squalane offers a water-free solution containing 1% retinol—an ingredient that improves the appearance of fine and dynamic lines that arise from a loss of collagen and elastin, while evening skin texture and tone. What’s more, this expert-level formula is supported with squalane, a moisturizing agent naturally found in your skin that enhances surface-level hydration and helps combat the dryness that can be associated with retinol use. The Ordinary Tip: Start with Retinol 0.2% in Squalane and slowly work your way up to Retinol 0.5% in Squalane and Retinol 1% in Squalane. That said, if you are prone to sensitivity, you may prefer to use newer retinoid technologies, such as those found in our Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion.

I have used retinol for about a year now and it has always dried me out, not with this one though. The oil squalane oil in it hydrates your skin but doesn’t make your face oily because it absorbs into your skin quickly. I am a fan of the Ordinary products which have been effective and affordable for me. Warning that this is a strong %, so if you are new to using Retinol, you may have some feeling of tingling or burning, or patches that itch or are very dry after a day or two. Use with caution on your neck. I only use it there once a week, but on my face every other night. Always use a moisturizer without Retinol over the top of this product to retain moisture. My pores shrunk within a couple of days of using this, my skin is much softer, I’ve tried a lot to shrink my pores and make my skin look healthy and so far this is the only thing that has worked. I can’t explain the scent to you, it’s not horrible, but it doesn’t smell like cupcakes. I've used a number of retinol serums. I have pretty sensitive skin and it works well with this serum, but it is entirely possible that my skin has just already acclimated to retinol. This product has a slight rosemary scent to it that I LOVE, but that some people might be sensitive to. This is my first time using retinol since I high school (I had severe acne) and I chose this one because of minimal ingredients and because I can easily adjust the potency by diluting it in another oil. I used 5 drops just one time the 1st week just to see how my skin would handle it. It can be very irritating, and I could tell it was too much for my skin so I decided to go low and slow. So for a few weeks I did 1-2 drops in 3-4 drops of jojoba oil once a week. Then gradually increased frequency and potency. Anyway, this has worked well for me so far. I'm not sure if I'd purchase again because I'm still unsure of how I feel about retinol. I'm thinking glycolic acid might be better for what I'm looking for, but I really like this product so far because I've been able to adjust it according to my needs. ... show more

The oil simply didn't absorb into my facial skin. Frankly, I like it better on my hands. I'm wondering if it'd be better with a tiny bit better quality facial oil (this one is not) and a bit more retinol. I love this company and hope they get this one improved.
