    • Diversity, yes! Age diversity feels like a missed opportunity.
The pros: The lovely artwork is colorful and sticks close to the Waite-Smith model, so anyone can learn the foundations with this deck. There is a great diversity of femmes and gender fluid people in the deck—it IS a modern feminist deck. The hardback LWB is nice to see and I really like the spread that is included in the back. There is a two-part slide-off hard box with printing on the inside! Very nice set at this price point. I love the backs! A lot. The color and design on this deck is wonderful! It's not reversible, but it's passible, so you can still use reversibles without clients knowing exactly. (The two swords pointing to the right is upright). I've been using this deck for a while and wanted to wait before posting a review. Overall, it reads very well for the purposes of my reading practice. However, there are a couple glaring things about the deck that I want to point out, which brings me to the cons. The cons: The card stock is way too thick and difficult to shuffle. There's no way to riffle shuffle this deck. Also, overhand shuffling damages the edges of the cards. (The top layer gets dinged and starts to peel off in places.) I have to break up the deck in two to over hand shuffle the deck. (I still can't riffle with the broken deck even!) I know people like thick card stock, but there IS such a thing as too thick! There really is no need to have more than 310gsm to 330gsm if you're using quality stock, 350gsm at most! If you're going to use 350gsm card stock, then you'll need to use flexible art paper or stock! (I'm nerding out here, but it's something I'm quite familiar with because of my work in the field.) This is thicker than 350gsm...feels like 400gsm?! When you start getting too thick, the possibility of damage increases especially with glossy finishes on thicker stocks where the image can almost peel off. The addition of the gloss adds thickness too and am wondering if that's what happened here creating stiff, inflexible cards. Another con is the lack of diversity of AGE in the deck. I understand one can't include everyone in the world, but...this feels like a deck for young witches. Perhaps it ought to be called the Millennial Witch Tarot? ;) This deck leaves out a wizened population of witches. I'm in my 40s and while I feel I can use this deck for both younger and older clients, I don't feel that my older witchy clientele resonates with this deck as much as my younger clientele does. There were so many amazing reviews about how diverse this deck was—and it is! To a point. IMO, if we're talking about diversity of witches, being a "modern witch" myself, we must include our modern wizened witches too...those who have passed down their wisdom! If I were consulting on this deck, I would have recommended that the Kings and Queens be more mature people. Or even the court cards be more diverse in age. Everyone seems to be in their 20s to 30s. Obviously this is the creators prerogative, as it is her deck creation! And, maybe this makes sense, especially if the creator is within that age range, for she would illustrate whatever her reflection/projection (psychologically speaking) is of the world. I'm just thinking here and expressing my opinion, in case others might be turned off with the lack of age diversity. It's not like there's zero older women, however, I only count four in the entire deck and none of them are solo— they are always with others. (There are other silver-haired folks, but they are young people with silver hair.) One of them is in the 6 of Swords with her back toward the viewer. The other is in the Death card with prayer hands facing Death. One is the Unknown Visitor in the 10 of Pentacles and the last one (who is more middle-aged with silver hair) is in the 3 of Pentacles (the art teacher). I guess I would have liked seeing a couple more wizened witches in the Majors and court cards. Saying that, I do like the Queen choices, but the Queen of Swords could have been an older woman and a couple of the Kings could have been older too. I really don't understand the King of Pentacles choice, but maybe it's someone the creator knows? Perhaps that's how she picked all of her court cards? I realize I'm being picky here, but IMHO It just feels like a missed opportunity. I'm just pointing out that there is a lack of diversity in age that would have been more relevant to the court cards. I know that Kings and Queens can represent young mature people, but again, feels like a missed opportunity. Based on the LWB, this deck is supposed to include fashion, which may be why the deck has a younger slant. But fashion isn't just for the youth. Older women follow and enjoy fashion too. I have been enjoying the variety of styles the creator used in the deck. For example, the Hermit's cloak and black dress with shining star medallion is beautiful (she's a young silver-haired witch in a dark room closing a laptop). As a side note, this makes me wonder if this will date the deck at some point in the future. But, this might not be a bad thing. I do enjoy getting out my dated decks from my collection. :) Overall, I'm glad I have this deck as a choice for clients to select from my working decks. I'll keep using it and maybe these cons will grow on me. I've noticed that my opinions can change with decks, which is why I hesitate to review decks anymore. But, the cons were enough here for me to speak up. To end on a positive note (this is a 3-star review!) There are many cards in the deck that work brilliantly. The Knights are wonderful. The Empress is painted beautifully, and I really adore all of the Aces. Strength is gorgeous—she wears heels—that takes strength! I love the balance of diverse brown, black and white women throughout the deck, as well as their varying shapes and sizes. There are few decks that are this diverse. This deck calls you TF out. Hard. Don't order if you can't handle getting called on your BS. Pros> Beautiful deck Beautiful artwork Feminine forward Hardcover guidebook Guidebook sums up each card right there w/o having to really contemplate too much with direct and clear to get messages. No BS. Nice box that will keep Cons> Card stock sticks to its self pretty bad. Big "globs" of cards will jump out as you attempt to shuffle. Deck is HUGE. It's thick, it's long and it's stiff. Yes> the cards. Keep with me here, my mind is also in the gutter today, but we're still on the topic of the cards. My average to small sized hands struggle to hang onto this bad babe deck in order to shuffle. First day I had it and spent forever trying to get it to shuffle up nice, ended up with some serious hand cramps> 1.5" thick, 4 3/4" long & roughly 2 13/16" wide. The card stock makes a big difference here. I have an oracle deck that measures 3/4" thick but 3 5/8" wide and 5" long and is no sweat to shuffle. I have 2 other decks that are just shy of 1" thick, same length as the modern witch and one is 2 10/16" wide the other 2 3/4" which are also a breeze to shuffle. (Clearly I am a bit of a deck collector.) I don't really forsee this deck "breaking in" and becoming any easier to shuffle. Sadly. This for me personally is a pretty big con since it definitely interferes with the use of the deck it's self. And you decide if it is a pro or a con but this deck does not give reversed interpretation for any of the cards. If you know the card meanings well enough or have the wherewithal it's easy peasy to figure that out, just with the interpretation given. But some people prefer to have it there in print for them. Would I recommend this deck, heck yes. However it would be a recommendation with a bold preface as to the difficulty with shuffling. But it is beautiful and delightful and insightful through and through. Just be prepared for hand cramps. Google up some hand stretches 😆 ... show more

at first i found it almost impossible to perfectly riffle shuffle this beautiful deck, but after about a week of doing so, the cards have become flexible enough to do so. anyways, the designs are great to look at, and i love how closely they stick to the rider waite deck while at the same time having an even better design!! ... show more

I use them to work with the Norse goddess Freya. These cards are good quality even in the card stock and the storage box they come with. They meet some of my needs for working with freya perfectly.

Disliked guid book, yet it would work well for beginners at tarot and for people who combined tarot with Oracle cards. I love the female energy specially combined with female goddess. The combination gives an accurate and smooth reading wish I love. When I first opened deck I herd spirit say “you and I are going to become the best of friends”💃🏽🕺🏼 Don’t expect lots of anger or fearful end of the world messages. I always think of witch cards as love earth energy I did not get this vibe from cards. Definitely I will use cards with my oracles and goddess. ... show more
