I've enjoyed Mr. Neice's youtbe channel videos, and consider myself somewhere in beginning/intermediate skill level in basic metal detecting. I haven't finished the book yet, but can tell you from what I have read so far, the author is very good at explaining how metal detector's work, and it appears to be a great resource for everyone new to metal detecting, and even those who aren't new to it but lack the basic understanding of the principles in force. I haven't even read the whole book but I already know, or at least, certainly believe, Brandon Niece has his ducks in a line. I kind of already suspected that because he was already discussed along with some of his strategies in Andy Sabisch's book about the Minelab CTX3030. I don't think Andy's going to just let any old "swinger" be a part of any of his books. I love how he goes in to detail about things like ground balancing, and noise cancel. These are such important aspects of a metal detector. I feel that he's a good, straight forward, concise but interesting author. Keep up the good work Brandon! ... show more

I've always been interested in metal detecting. People come up on good things and I've always had a dream of finding treasure, a la The Goonies. I grabbed this book in hopes I can make my dream a reality. I may not find a pirate ship, but I could possibly find a rare coin or two. I haven't started searching just yet, but I figured getting the right information would be a great start. First, you need the right equipment. Author Brandon Neice gives the lowdown on all the tips needed in . order to help towards success. Just a metal detector does not success make. Picks, shovels, clippers, scoops, a GPS, a backpack and gloves are only a small hit on the list of items needed. No need to go this large though. What you take with you is largely based on what kind of area you are scouting around. Neice covers every metal detecting situation. From getting the right equipment, how to listen, what to listen for, how to "sweep", how to dig, what to look for, where to look, how to negotiate, and how to preserve found goods. It truly is a go-to for all the tricks of the trade. After reading this book, I feel comfortable I can find some cool items as long as I stay patient. Now to buy a metal detector! ... show more
