I have a 16' farm gate over a gravel driveway. Those 'helper' wheels (the ones that mount on the bottom rail at an angle) tend to make the gate twist and the 'death grip' mount is well... not a death grip so... lots of gate frustrations. THIS design, however, is in-line with and underneath the heavie
st point of the gate. The mounting plate is GENIUS (for those of us... me, for example, who can't create mounting plates myself). I (meaning my son with me pointing) was able to set two of the mounting 'U's just under the welded cross-bars. The only way this bad boy is slipping is if the welds on the gate break! No-flat tire? Fantastic... It is a large tire, but guess what? I really tired of the smaller tires binding up, failing, breaking, slipping... so I'm ready for 'big hoss'. OH... and skip the frustrations of those gate wheels with springs... OMG where to begin... they are either too soft or too hard, mounted on a too small (rarely too big) pin hinge and while they look they might help with the bumps in the surface... that just means the wheel can touch the ground without carrying weight OR the gate drives the wheel assembly into the ground getting stuck... yuck. Safe yourself the troubles. Get this wheel.

What a GREAT farm gate wheel

OK, we've only had this wheel for just over a week now, but we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Even our small granddaughter can open our gate into the pasture with no problem. It makes us smile every time we open it as in the past, it didn't matter which gate wheel we put on it, they all were the 6-8 inch wheel
s which simply didn't work on our uneven dirt and gravel. Those small wheels would only dig holes into the ground making even harder to open the gate. Literally having to lift it with two hands and drag it. This BIG wheel works like a dream. Time will tell how it holds up, but if it truly stays round without any flat spots, we will continue to love it. NOTE: We loved this one so much that we right away ordered (and installed today) one of their #768 front mount wheels for our other large gate heading down to our barn area. Again, another 14' pipe rail ranch gate very uneven and sloped ground which killed a few of the smaller, supposedly strong (NOT!) gate wheels. It too has made it soooo easy to open and close that gate.

Make sure you get it exactly perpendicular to the gate.

I love that it is so easy compared to the little hard-tired ones. This one actually works on a gravel driveway. But it can't be the tiniest bit crooked, so don't tighten anything until you're sure.

I've been through lower priced gate wheels. They do not work well or if they do, not for long. This product is well designed and extremely well built. Very sturdy. The u-bolt clamps are flattened on the side that contacts the gate rail. This is very important because u-bolts with a round contact surf
ace tend to slip and/or compress the tubing. These grip very well without distorting the gate tubing. It is easy to install. You have to get it positioned just right but it isn't that hard. The only thing that is important to know about this wheel is that it is heavy. What this means is that it needs to contact the ground through the full arch of the gate so that it is not hanging in mid air at any point. This can be an issue on rough farm roads and driveways which was true in my case. I had to spend a little time leveling up the path the wheel follows. Again, not a big deal; but because of the weight of this wheel you do not want it hanging because that will cause your gate to sag. Overall, this is the best farm gate solution I've seen. It is not cheap but as soon as you open the box you will know it is money well spent.

Carries 200 pound, 20 foot panel with ease

My 20 foot swinging fence panel sits on the ground and was just too heavy for one person to move. The U-clamp holes on the wheel mount are spaced just right to clamp onto the panel pipe and easy to adjust. It took only a few minutes to install using a floor jack, and the solid tire won't go flat. The
large tire makes only a slight depression on the ground which allows the panel to settle into position. When it's time to move it, a slight pull and the panel rises up and swings open easily with only one person. Would definitely buy another. If there was a smaller model to fit the 10 foot panels I would also buy one of those but have not found any for sale. Before I found this, the pipe fence couldn't be moved without 2 people to lift it. Thank you for a good quality, good functioning product.

I needed a gate wheel for a sagging gate in rather rough ground. I installed this gate wheel according to directions and it's working just fine. The tire's larger diameter really helps on uneven ground.
