Description

How to choose your Bathroom Fan? What is a sone rating? Sones, or the sone rating, is a term used to describe sound levels. Lower sone ratings are found on quieter fans. Higher sone ratings indicate a louder bathroom fan. What is CFM? CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) measures fan air movement. CFM increases as air movement increases. A higher CFM is best for a larger bathroom; a lower CFM may be adequate for smaller spaces. TD-BF-01 110CFM1.0Sones. Ventilating for bathroom up to 110 Sq. Ft TD-BF-02 90CFM0.8Sones. • Fits budget fan dimensions and outperforms them in every way!
Size: 80CFM
Lots of background, skip to the bottom for the pro's and cons of this unit. I bought this to replace the old bathroom fan that was undersized by the original housebuilder. They installed a 50 cfm budget fan that was 4 sones in loudness. After 12 years the motor died and I ordered another complete unit and chucked the housing because just the replacement motor costs 5 dollars more than the whole unit? Dumb! Anyway, there was never a shower that didn't leave the mirror foggy or the walls wet. There is a slight mold along the shower wall that I would wipe with bleach but it would come back within a few weeks or so. Further research and measuring the cubic feet of the bathroom, I knew I needed to get the proper ventilation fan. So I measured the small bathroom, the Height was 8 feet, the Width was 5 feet, the Length was 6 feet. Thank God for algebra, who knew? So that was 240 cfm. (LxWxH). Fans rated for this space were well over $100 dollars. I didn't want to spend that much and I wanted to stay within the original dimensions of the budget fan which was approx. 7.5 inches x 7.25 inches. I looked on here and found this Tech Drive fan that fit the dimensions perfectly. The vent chute for the budget fan was 3", this new one was 4", so I knew I had to replace the vent to the roof, luckily the builders cut a 4" hole vent and I knew I could replace the hose. Back to the CFM, My total room was 240, this fan is rated at 80 cfm's. This means that it would take 3 minutes to exchange the air in the bathroom. So I opted to get this fan. After all, my old fan was 50 cfm so, it would take 5 minutes to do the same job. So round about, 60% more suction on the new fan compared to the budget junk I had. Ordered it and waited. Pros: 1.Fit the original budget fan hole perfectly. No cutting and minimal mess. 2. Waaay quieter than the original. This thing is nearly silent especially considering the old fan rated at 4 sones. This is only 1.5 sones, basically 1/3 as loud as the junk one it replaced. Who knew bathroom fans weren't supposed to sound like running garbage disposals? 3. Clear instructions and removable motor, screws were also included. 4. No more steamy mirrors and wet walls! 5. Three year warranty Cons: 1. The outlet vent is 4", original budget fans are typically 3". You will have to get in the attic and swap the original hose to outside. 2. The vent outlet isn't directional, meaning make sure the flap inside CLOSES when the fan is not running and OPENS when the fan is on. If your not careful you can put it on "upside down" and it would be OPEN when off and CLOSED when on, making it not work properly. 3. Vent outlet is plastic. One of the tabs that hold it in position BROKE very easily. I had to use metal tape to secure the vent hose to the housing. Not a big deal but be aware and prepared for this, if not, the moist air could end up leaking in the attic and create mold, mildew and even warp your drywall and cause wood rot. If you made it this far, you must be serious about bathroom vent fans. Just make sure that the housing is not sticking past the drywall! Flush is best but when your working alone without a ground helper, it is better to have the housing come up a 1/4" short than hang out, or else the cover will not touch against the ceiling, leaving an unsightly gap between the cover and the wall/ceiling! Unfortunately, mine stuck past the drywall, but there is NO way in he** I'm crawling up into the attic again! P.s. watch out for nails above your head when in the attic! I would absolutely recommended this fan. Good luck and God bless. ... show more

  • Good quality and low price

This is a good and cheap exhaust fan. It just replaced the old exhaust fan in my house. It makes a little noise, which is completely acceptable. The light is bright enough to illuminate my entire bathroom.

  • PERFECT FOR A SMALLER BATHROOM
Size: 80CFM
I needed two new fans to replace noisy builders grade that have been annoying us for 19 years. I almost paid twice as much for a name brand fan because it had a slightly lower noise rating but decided to give this one a try based on reviews. Good choice. Most of the replacement work was removal of the old fan including all the insulation that dropped down. This fan fit perfectly into the opening for the old fan so no cutting or enlargement was necessary. Along with these fans I did order a plastic 4" to 3" adapter that costs about $7, knowing that my old fan used a 3" exhaust duct as many homes built when ours was does. This company says attic access is not required for installation. The flanges that are designed to attach the fan to the joist can only be used if you are installing the fan from above. But, there is a groove around the bottom of the fan housing that makes it easy to drill a couple holes and attach the fan from below. If those holes had been pore-drilled, I would have given the installation 5 stars. That give you the additional advantage of placing whatever side of the fan housing that works best with your electrical and exhaust duct against the joist. All in all, a relatively easy job. And, the fan is super quiet. With the bathroom door closed, you cannot hear it at all. For the money, this fan can't be beat. ... show more

  • Great fan
Size: 80CFM
My wife and I bought a house and loved almost all of it except for the bathroom exhaust fans! The were so noisy you had to raise your voice to be heard over them. I was actually concerned about hearing damage, so I saw this fan on Amazon, great reviews and they were right! Sometimes I forget the fan is running its so quiet, and while it isn't exactly a shop vacuum in strength it is twice the CFM as the old fan. ( 80 cfm compared to 40) $60 may be a little more than I was looking to spend but it seems to be well made and definitely quiet! We only have it for couple of months so I can't speak about long-term, but so far, so good! I would recommend it! I put one in each of our bathrooms, just try to into ducting for the existing fan. This fan has a 4"in. outlet & my duct was 3" so I had to buy adapters, and that's another story! Make sure the adapter fits ON 4" to whatever you have on your existing fan. 👍 ... show more

  • Not good for replacement of old fan
Size: 80CFM
This fan is really lousy for replacing an old fan where installing in an attic is not an option. I was installing in a first floor bathroom, so not accessible from above, this fat has a lot of flaps hanging everywhere so you have to cut the whole in the drywall larger to account for that, then the vent cover doesn’t cover that. There also aren’t screw holes accessible from below. So overall, fan is ok, ease of install for a first floor bathroom, zero stars. ... show more
