I do a lot of raised bed gardening. The top soil that I used tends to pack down, and I needed to mix it up some and add some compost/perlite/etc. I was trying to do this by hand (100+ degree temps). I had a smaller one, but decided to try this one, and I love it! I have mixed up soil that was heavy with clay, and it is so light now. An 18-volt drill is not powerful enough for this bit in clay or any other soil that is heavier or tighter than raised-bed soil. Also needs a slightly longer top shaft for better power transfer and so it will not get loose and fall out of the drill so easily.

Great product. Getting old and my grip isn't what it used to be. This worked its way through grass roots and made it much easier to make holes for planting and loosen the soil to a good planting depth. If you need a bigger hole than 4", you just keep working outwards, remove excess soil, and keep drilling down. ... show more

Not real happy with this. Claims 4 inch, really 3.25. It wobbles a sort of a 4 inch hole. If you are using it for planting bulbs it's fine. I need a 4 inch hole. Found a better one that suits my purpose.
