The media could not be loaded. Directions for use are pretty good, but take a good look at the plumbing and really understand what you are doing. You don't want to open the wrong valves during each step. Overall, it's an easy process. UPDATE: I am please with customer service, they responded quickly with no hassle to make things right. I received a new pump today, so I will be ready to go next time I need to clean / descale the water heater. So this really does change my opinion. The process works well, is well documented and easy for a novice. So my rating has been updated to reflect the positive outcome. I’m always hesitant to start home maintenance, because i always seem to end up making a mess, breaking something or otherwise creating a headache for me or my family. I was concerned that messing with the hot water heater would leave all of us with cold showers do to me lack of experience. In this case I am happy to say that was not the case. However, not everything went as smoothly as I had hoped. I am very happy with the stainless steel tubes to attach to the inlet and outlet on my heater. They fit well, very secure and no drips. I got everything hooked up according to the directions very easily. I would recommend using a second bucket under the pressure relief outlet. After turning off the main line and outlet, I partially drained the system using the pressure value to make opening the secondary value (used by this kit easier). I then back filled from the main value to ensure there was water in the system to prime the sump. At this point I turned the pump on and watched it circulate my concentrated vinegar. All went well for the first 25 minutes or so. Then the pump sound noticeably changed. I stopped it and checked to see if anything had broken or there was something loose. A visual inspection showed nothing - so I assumed it was just some air trapped in the system somewhere. When I replaced the pump I visually confirmed it was working by pulling the output tube out and watching it for a bit. About 5 minutes later the pitch changed again and since it had been about 30 minutes I finished up. Unfortunately, I discovered that the pump grate was totally trashed and the impeller was no longer able to push the solution through the system. So all in all I think it completed the intended descaling operation, but broke in the process. I didn’t have an easy way at this point to flush the solution so I just let the shower run on hot for 10 minutes. So this kit was essentially a one time use kit for me. I was happy with the fit of the stainless steel tubing, and I appreciated having everything all conveniently shipped to me. Though even with the “bucket opener” it was very difficult to gain access to the contents. I felt like it was an adult LOL toy…. I think the kit really Should have included some concentrated vinegar and a maybe nested a smaller bucket for the relief valve water. The instructions should also have mentioned that and how its used. Overall, thought the instructions were acceptable, but left room for improvement. The real loser was the pump, the cheap plastic ruined the experience. For the price I would expect more quality and to get more than one use out of the kit. We have owned this for 5 months. We just used it a 2nd time. First time was great, but less than 6 months later, it is rusting and disintegrating. I am hoping we can get one last use out of it but I don’t think we will.

One of the major issues with this kit is the flimsy plastic handle that connects to the pump. Right out of the box, the handle cracked, which is a significant concern as it can lead to water leakage onto the pump motor, creating an electrical hazard. In my experience, the cracked handle did indeed cause water to seep into the pump, and when I attempted to use the kit after submerging the pump in water, I received an electric shock. This is an unacceptable safety risk and a dealbreaker for many users. Despite the kit's claims of being an "easy to flush" solution, the poor design and construction of the handle make the entire process frustrating and potentially dangerous. A product designed for cleaning water heaters should prioritize user safety and durability, but this kit falls short in both areas. While the pump itself may function as intended, the fragile handle renders the entire kit unusable and raises serious safety concerns. It's not worth risking an electric shock or potential water damage just to save a few dollars on a cleaning kit. Ultimately, I had to return this product and search for a more robust and reliable alternative. For those considering the 6699 Tankless Water Heater Cleaning Kit, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a safer and higher-quality option, even if it costs a bit more.
