  • Hot Showers again!
My water heater died and is costly to replace, tired of taking cold showers so I looked into portable water heaters, wanted on with small propane tank and rechargeable battery. Coleman unit fit the bill. I read the mixed reviews, watched the youtube videos and purchased. The only negative thing I can say it that it did not come with and ac adapter to charge/run at home. I was able to source one but I also found that the Coleman Powerchill ac adapter works as well, just a 120V to 12V cigarette type adapter for home. Used 4 times out of the box since I had no way to charge it without driving around for several hours. It will deliver scalding water so be careful. There is a trick to get it started just like a regular gas water heater, you have to hold the button down in the pilot position for a few seconds after it ignites to allow the element to get hot enough to keep the pilot from going out. I use a 14 gallon storage container for water, the 5 gallon jug that came with the unit was a bit light for my shower time. Shower hose is a little short but usable, Can't speak to longevity but I am happy to have hot water again. I do use indoors with exhaust fan on and a CO2 detector nearby, obviously despite warnings that is outdoor use only. Bottom line it works, wish I had one when I was a boy scout and camping ... show more

  • A disappointment
I really wanted this to work. The design looks great. I loved the handle and carry case unit. Unfortunately mine was defective. When it arrived the box appeared to have been previously opened but all parts were there. When I used the unit at camp, the pilot did not light using the button that ticks and is supposed to light it. The on/off switch runs the water pump and if you shut it off to soap up, the propane flame goes out so the water is cold again. I had 3 cold water showers in mid October. I returned the unit. It is very disappointing because I wanted to pay extra for a convenient easy to use unit that works. It did not work or my unit did not work. ... show more

  • Awesome product! But
A few things you need to know for operation… It needs charged! I thought it needed to be plugged in to operate…nope, it’s mobile! Drop it into a river or lake for unlimited hot water/shower…this thing uses water very fast!!! And you wont have to turn it off between washing and rinsing or the next person taking a shower. Throw the plastic jug that comes with it away! Worthless and leaks! This is a fantastic product with good water pressure and very hot! You will use it on medium. One last thing…it has to be on and pumping water to light the pilot light!!!! One of the best camping purchases I’ve ever made! ... show more

  • NO 120V-12V POWER SUPPLY...WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!
Yes. They do not include a home power supply which means you need to leave it plugged into your vehicle for (initially) 6 hours to charge the battery. The instructions give you a part number for a 120v-12v adapter, ...but where do you purchase this item. NOT on the Coleman web site, nor from Amazon. Always thinking outside the box, and just plain lucky, I found a 120v-12v power supply with a cigarett lighter plug to match the plug on the water heater on Amazon, and was just lucky that it worked! The unit is fickle as well. You NEED to try this unit out at home before you really need it as it can be tempermental. I found that the water bottle that comes with the water heater is a BIG waste of water. Works much better if you put the pump in a bucket of clean water, and then place the shower head into the bucket as well to save water. When you want to use the unit, you need to start the pump first so the heater can sense water flow. This is why you place the shower head into the bucket to save water. While in use, return the shower head to the bucket and allow the water to circulate, which will save water, and remove shower head from the bucket to rinse off. Then find the right spot on the dial to get the Pizio ignighter to operate. The temp selector is SENSITIVE! Turn it all the way to max-hot works good. Nice and hot with good water flow. Touch it to turn it down, ...and it may go WAY DOWN to cold. Also, dont bump the machine when in use/running as it has SENSITIVE sensors which will stop EVERYTHING! Other then these "MINOR" details, the unit does work...ish! (smiley face) ... show more

  • Camped for 9 days with and it worked perfectly!
Once you get the hang of the safety cut off features, this thing is great! We are a family of 8 and we love to camp for weeks at a time. It sounds lame, but my pet peeve is having to boil water to do dishes. I felt so spoiled on our last trip because all I had to do was run my dish pan full of clean water, turn on the pump and submerge it (sometimes shake it around to get the air bubbles out), turn on the heater, and set the temperature! Hot dish water in just a few minutes! It only "failed" on us a few times in 9 days and each time it turned out to be user error. Once I forgot to plug in the power cord for the pump unit. Once the water level got too low for the pump so it shut off the propane. And once it just died... because I forgot to charge it. But we we found out that we were able to run it while it was plugged in to the charger! From then on we just kept it plugged in most of the time. This use hadn't occurred to me before this trip but it was a nice perk... The bath house wasn't too far away but we have younger boys and I wouldn't dare send them alone so, instead of waiting until my husband was back from the store, I just had the kids shower in their swimsuits right there at our campsite. They loved it! And each time, I had to turn the heat setting down because they said it was too warm. I hadn't expected to have the "problem" with a portable water heater. We did a youtube review: [...] ... show more
