  • I Loved System Shock 2.
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X
I had never played the original system shock. So I couldn’t resist when I heard it had come out for Xbox series X. I was excited to learn that it was not just a remaster, but a remake. I hope that they do the sequel as well!

  • Great Retro Remake
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X
If you love retro style games this will due. Picked this up for Xbox and couldn’t be happier. The retro style graphics and music is there but with a slick polish. The game is not easy but that is part of what makes it retro. Recommended for old school gamers who want a taste of decades past. Enjoy!

  • Rebooting Cybernetic Terror: System Shock on Xbox Series X
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X
Pros: Visual Overhaul: System Shock receives a stunning visual upgrade on the Xbox Series X, with revamped textures, improved lighting effects, and enhanced character models, breathing new life into its dystopian world. Smooth Performance: With the power of the Xbox Series X, System Shock runs smoothly at high framerates and resolutions, delivering a seamless and immersive experience without technical hiccups or slowdowns. Modernized Controls: The game benefits from refined controls optimized for the Xbox Series X controller, offering responsive and intuitive gameplay mechanics that make navigating its complex environments and interfaces a breeze. Enhanced Immersion: System Shock leverages the advanced audio capabilities of the Xbox Series X to heighten immersion with immersive sound design, dynamic audio effects, and spatial audio technology, plunging players deeper into its atmospheric world. Classic Revival: By bringing System Shock to the Xbox Series X, players both new and old can experience this groundbreaking title in a modernized form, appreciating its innovative gameplay, gripping narrative, and enduring legacy. Cons: Retro Aesthetic: While the visual overhaul improves the game's graphics significantly, some players may still find the retro aesthetic of the original System Shock style not as visually appealing as more contemporary titles. Steep Learning Curve: Despite modernized controls, System Shock retains its complex gameplay mechanics and interface, which may present a challenge for newcomers unfamiliar with the immersive sim genre. Limited Accessibility: While System Shock's revival on the Xbox Series X introduces the game to a new audience, its niche appeal and old-school design may not resonate with all modern gamers, particularly those accustomed to more streamlined experiences. Comparison: System Shock on Xbox Series X stands out as a revitalized classic, offering a unique blend of immersive sim, FPS, and horror elements that set it apart from contemporary titles. While games like Deus Ex and Bioshock share thematic similarities with System Shock, its pioneering design and legacy make it a distinct experience in the gaming landscape, particularly for players seeking a deep narrative, complex gameplay, and atmospheric world-building. Overall, System Shock's revival on the Xbox Series X marks a triumphant return for a seminal title in gaming history, introducing a new generation of players to its cybernetic terror while satisfying longtime fans with a modernized experience that pays homage to its legacy. ... show more

  • Fun so far but...
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X
I can't compare this to the original System Shock as I've never played it back on the PC. I did spend a lot of time on SS2 though. The only real complaint I have so far is there is very little to help you on your way. No objective list that I can see, only thing you have to go on is messages from dead npc's. No objective marker on the map to show you where in the heck you are supposed to go. You're basically on your own as far as figuring out how to manage your inventory, the mechanics of solving puzzles, fuguring out what exactly it is you are supposed ot be doing, etc.. if you can put up with a little aggravation it's still a fun game once you figure these things out. Hope they are working on System Shock 2 port. ... show more
