We have had small above ground pools for over 20 years but this is the first sand filter we have owned and used. Why did I not get one before?! This thing is fabulous! Our pool is literally SPARKLING clean - I have have never seen the water looking so good. We have a 18' pool and it handles that size without problem. The pump is fairly quiet - you can hear it running but not annoyingly. Ran great as soon as I set it up. It came with extra tubing and most everything you need. You will need o ring lube and possibly different tubing depending on your setup. The biggest downfall is the directions are not great when it gets to telling you which tubes to hook where. The directions are fine for putting the sand filter together but I found I had to do some searching of other peoples photos to see how to connect hoses thus I am including some photos of hose setup to help you out in case you get on the struggle bus like me (I have a bus pass). The plugs are plastic (as are 99.999% of everything made nowadays...ugh) so you have to use some care when tightening but nothing that would keep me from buying - just keep it under Hulk level and you should be fine. Directions were alittle lacking on when to backwash the filter but with alittle Googling I was able to make sense of the directions (pressure increase above starting pressure - time to backwash). It is quiet, powerful and does a great job. Occasionally you need to clean out the impeller with some needle nose plyers due to hair or grass getting sucked into it but other than that we have used it for a couple years with zero issues.

If you buy this pump and after a few days/weeks have issues with pressure gauge not registering and week suction, take apart the first connection into the motor. It gets a ton of junk (hair, leaves, etc.) stuck in the rotor that needs pulled out. After doing so, works like a champ again. Thought I bought a junker at first but just had too much hair and debris stuck in it. Would figure it’d come from the pool and go to the filter first but instead it goes through the pump, then the filter, then returned to pool. Does leak a bit but if you use duct tape at the connections and tighten down the clamps, it’s very minimal. Overall. Good little pump and filter. ... show more

This pump works excellent compared to the included paper filter unit that came with our 16x10 pool. It could not keep up with the hot weather and quickly began to get cloudy. This pump had it all cleared up within about 6 hours! See before and after photos. Great value for the money, and it came with everything except for the filter material (sand), but I opted to use filter balls instead. Highly recommended. ... show more

I have had a above ground pool all my life with every size sand filter imaginable. The worst problem with this pool is you can’t tighten up the parts that come with this filter up enough not to leak as shown in the picture. The parts should have been hand tightened and my husband tried plumbing tools i tried the roofing tape we put on the vinyl under our pool to hold it together and it doesn’t move when the sun sets it. But it still leaks I could see if it was where the new hoses meet the old but no not the issue it’s there parts and as u can see it makes a big puddle mess to be cleaned up. Add the instructions were awful I called there number to be told they only handle chairs and furniture I would have to call amazon of that number. The instructions are awful I am still not sure how to back flush and I am fixing to try utub before calling amazon again and this is probably my 10th filter but it wants u to unplug it every time u turn the handle I have never heard of that . 🤦♀️🤷♀️ like I said it showed a part in the manual said it was optional and then said nothing else and it’s a big part and i still don’t know how to understand how to use it 🤷♀️ if anyone else has tip please help . We bough a pool several years ago that came with a cartridge filter. We were constantly battling algae and scum no matter what chemicals we used it would never clear up. Bought the trusty sand pump and it went from dark to daylight. Pool is beautiful and clear now. Bite the bullet buy this setup comes with everything, but word to the wise::: buy other hose clamps the ones that camp with it broke and failed under the pool return valve pressure. ... show more

I got this pump and purchased the washable fabric filter balls instead of using sand. It was pretty easy to set up, but be sure to buy a tube of waterproof lube before you get started! Use the o-rings and lube on all the connectors to save yourself headache from leaks. The pump is powerful without being too much power, and the water in the pool has been crystal clear since I set it up about a month ago. I love not having to buy and replace those stupid paper filters every week and still having hazy water. I got 4 square concrete pavers to set it on to keep it steady and it's been humming away. It works fine, the pump is lower powered . But would work fine for people without complicated water . The one huge complaint I have is that the drain pipe on the side won’t let you over tighten it . It’s cheap plastic with cheap rings and ended up a huge spraying disaster . Needless to say I’m using my old pump and filter . It’s not something you can easily fix because it’s beneath the sand . So basically a huge messy chore that no one wants to deal with after setting up the pool. I snapped a pic as I was disassembling it so you can see where the leak was . The last issue o have with this sand filter is that the pressure gauge does not appear to work . The pressure never increases.
