I bought this sand filter and pump combo a couple of years ago for my little 1100 gal pool. It did a FANTASTIC job keeping the pool clean compared with the glorified fish tank pump that came with the pool. In my case, I was not able to remove the old pump from the bottom of the skimmer, so I instead pulled the impeller out of the pump and installed this between the old pump and the pool return. It works perfectly for my purpose but it would probably move even more water without the old pump in between. Anyway, this set up is great. Note to anyone that needs it: I did not bring it in for the winter and that was a mistake. The pump didn’t work when I tried it again early this summer. But with the help of some YouTube videos, I learned that if you pop the back cover off the pump, you can turn the impeller, breaking it free to spin again. It worked for me and it has been going all summer once again (knock on wood). ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I've never had a sand pump for my pool before, but decided to order this one to replace the stock cartridge filter. All I can say is that this pump works so much better. It can actually handle having two intakes on the pool one for the skimmer and one for a lower level set intake to pull out the junk in the pool. It was super easy to set up and keep my water crystal clear. My chemicals are also easier to balance. The pump and motor are also super quiet. It comes with both one and a quarter and one and a half inch attachments for the inlet and outlet of the pump and valve. The only thing that caught me off guard was that the pump comes with 1-1/4 inch hoses And Amazon told me it came with 1-1/2 inch hoses. The hoses are cheaper plastic and do not seal super well with the plastic hose clamps that are provided with most pools however higher quality hose clamps fixed the issue. I filled it with a 50 pound bag of sand from my local pool store and follow the directions for set up and had no issues with sand pumping into my pool or anything like that. ... show more

    • Amazing filter great purchase, just a few things you may want to know...

Does this product really work!?!? Yes, it does! And VERY well. To start it's powerful! The suc5ion is wonderful and it cleans my 12x20ft oblong above ground Coleman pool in about 2-3 hours giver or take how much cleaning needs to be done. This is even with the skimmer basket attached. Another big plus is that it comes with all the needed hoses clamps and tools necessary. Instruction aren't super clear but assembly is straight forward. However here what I think you should know. 1. there does happen to be a leak that occurs when connecting the hose to the "pool" opening as noted on the pump lever. It's a drip but a leak nonetheless. 2. The sand comes separately 3. Make sure you have the pump/filter placed EXACTLY where you wanted before filling with the pool filter sand. 4. I recommend using a cup to scoop sand slowly. Pouring the sand will cause alignment issues. (You'll know what I mean when you read the instructions.) But overall besides those miniscule hassles definitely worth it. Although I'm NOT looking forward to putting this thing away for the winter. It's HEAVY. Again miniscule and still worth the buy ... show more

This unit has been working pretty good so far. Like others have mentioned, the instructions leave a lot to be desired but if you're somewhat mechanically inclined and understand how these types of things work you'll have no problem setting it up. The mentions of leakage is more than likely due to not using enough thread tape and/or not tightening the fittings correctly. I have zero issue with leaks. There are no coupling adapters with this kit so it is possible you will need to get a set of those as well to fit the hoses to the existing water ports on your pool. My kit came with parts not even listed in the instructions and was also missing a few clamps but I had those in my supplies. Pump is very quiet! You can add an inline timer like you would use for outdoor Christmas lights. If you're remotely able to think outside of the box then you will be fine and happy with this set up, especially for the cost. ... show more
