  • Love this pad- Would buy again
Size: Queen Style: Pad
{Update} - Been using this daily since we bought it (about a month now). My wife has come to love it more than myself even though she was so against getting it. We've had no issues. Since I have a moisture proof mattress pad a and bed sheet over it, we've not had an occasion to clean it. We find that we don't need more than a 2 or 3 setting on the 1-10 dial. But then, we have a down comforter bedspread. So when we get into bed, the comforter really captures the heat well. I really like the turning it on when I get ready for bed. I have a habit of brushing my teeth after dinner so the bed is toasty by the time I get into bed. It's hard to describe how good the warm bed feels. Admittedly, I go to sleep pretty fast since I got this. Had this for another bed. I got this because I didn't want an electric blanket. I thought a blanket would be too hot and uncomfortable. I just wanted that reminded me of a warm floor or like the asian experience. In Korea for example, you sleep on electrically heated floors w/ no heated blankets. My wife absolutely didn't want it. So I was able to sell her on it because you can control the blanket 1/2's. There are two controllers for each 1/2. I gave her the controller for her side and put it on her night stand. Ha ha. After a week, she started to turn it on an hour before going to bed for both of us to warm up the blankets before going to sleep. She turns her side off when she gets into bed. I notice she puts hers on level 2. I put mine at 1.5 or so the whole night. For the pad itself, I put it directly on the mattress, then put a mattress protector over that followed by a standard fitted mattress sheet. If you run your hands over the sheet, you sort of feel the wiring, but clearly feels padded. The Pad itself is really thick and doesn't feel cheap. It feels very well made. Some reviewers have commented about the controller plug-in being in an awkward place. I chose to put it at the top of the bed where the pillows are. The plug is in the middle top on the top part of the pad. The part of the pad that stretches down to wrap around the mattress is a lighter more stretchy material. So I can see why you wouldn't build the electric plug in the lighter material area. We don't get bothered or feel the plug as it's near the edge of the mattress and between the pillows. The length of cables for the controllers is way long enough to reach the nightstands on each side. So from the pad, there are three cables. 1 for each controller and 1 for the electric cord. So, the one feature I do wish I had is a pre-heat button as in the more expensive version at slightly more than twice the price. Although the pad shuts off after 10 hours. I would have liked to have the pre-heat button with some ability to control that for 1, 2 or 3 hours length of time before the pad shuts off. I just think it would be nice to get into a warmed up bed and have the pad shut off a bit after I fall asleep. I think the next time I have to buy this, I would go for the pre-heat feature for convenience. I just hate that those features add so much to the price of the pad. For the price and what you get, this pad is a GREAT price and value. It's a great taster of how one would like the pad vs an electric blanket direction to be warm. For me... I love the pad heat more than an electric blanket. ... show more

  • Love the warm bed!
Size: Queen Style: Pad
This is a great alternative to an electric blanket. It fits well over our queen size mattress and warms the bed from the mattress side. Great for warming cold sheets.

  • Works Great, But Two Minor Complaints..... And an Update.... And a Final Update (Feb 2018)
Size: Queen Style: Pad
It was time to replace my old heated mattress pad, as it was taking hours to actually warm up the bed. Not so with this new Sunbeam model. It has a pre-heat cycle that quickly warms, then maintains the heat setting indicated by the dial. Which leads me to the first small issue.... The dials are extremely tight, and they literally take both hands to change settings. You have to hold the control with one hand and then put forth quite some effort to turn the dial with the other. The second issue is the placement of the plug. It is kind of hard to explain, but my old warmer had the connection basically where the mattress met the box spring. The Sunbeam model's plug is at the foot of the bed, but is actually on TOP. So your feet will occasionally hit it. Because it's under the sheet, it will not unplug. It's just an odd place to have it. Unlike the older ones, you cannot feel the wires in this one, which is great. For the price and the warm-up/temperature maintaining performance, I'd recommend it. EDIT: Taking this down to 3 stars. I, like many others, experienced the "blinking and no longer heating" that seems to plague this particular pad. Luckily, it happened on the side I do not sleep on, so I will continue to use it as-is; however, I did not get even three full seasons' worth of use. I am going to start comparing other options now so that I am ready to purchase a replacement if/when the working side dies. My best suggestion is to monitor RECENT reviews to see if this issue is still a trend. From what I've read, Sunbeam has not been overly responsive to consumer complaints about this. I bought mine evidently off season (paid a little over half the current price), and I can honestly say that there is no way I'd pay the current price, given the short life span. EDIT 2: The one side is still working, but I decided to splurge and purchase one that will heat the entire bed during this hideously cold winter we're having. I purchased this item in Nov 2013, and I was down to one side working in 2015. As of this season, the side that was working was still heating very well. So I will leave the overall rating at 3 stars, since it continued to heat "my side"! ... show more
