  • Works well, heat quickly, but ….
Color: Black
Wow, this hopefully is definitely a generic brand in there. Others available the very similar. This one was well priced and look good. I wanted arrived. I was surprised how heavy it is but that is a benefit. It can get very hot very quickly so be careful. The only downside is that the burner cools very slowly. if you’re using this to cook something at a low temperature for a long time that would be a benefit but if you’re simply using it to cook something at a high temperature for maybe 15 to 20 minutes it will take at least an hour for this to cool down enough to be able to handle. That is the only disadvantage and I think it is a good product . ... show more

  • As Described

I am very pleased with this purchase. Takes a little longer to heat up than I would like, but once it comes to temp, I am very pleased that, it can indeed, boil and sear food. Made chili in my stockpot. Seared meat and I had to turn down to between 2-3 level for simmer. Simmered for approx 1 hr with no problem. Used it the next morning to fy an egg, was done in no time. Very pleased. I have an old propane stove/cooktop. I have not used it in a long time. As single person, I usually use either my Ninja Foodie Pro or my Ninja xl Grill to cook with. But sometimes you just want to grab a pan and cook something rather than pulling all the appliances out. This was a good purchase. ... show more

  • Serious Heat Output
Color: Silver
Using this item at a recent event where a hot holiday punch was made yielded excellent results. A test of the heating capacity prior to the event showed an ability of the hot plate to bring 2 quarts (1/2 gal) of cold water to a boil in 12 minutes. Note that the geometry of the boiling vessel was in part coefficient to this heat absorbtion producing that boiling time. The pot used for the test was a 3 qt All-Clad sauce-pan with a bottom diameter of 8 inches, which centered the liquid column more directly over the heating surface, whereas in the actual-use scenario, a slightly wider and thinner-walled stock pot at 10 inches diameter allowed for a larger volume of unconvected liquid around the perimeter, which resulted in a slightly longer boil time of about 15 min. This item would be well suited to remote cooking and warming tasks, and would suffice for certain tableside-show desserts like Bananas Foster, with the added safety of a non-flame heat source. ... show more

  • Unable To Register Warranty
Color: Silver
This is a very nice hot plate. However, before you purchase a one for yourself, you need to know that Sunavo’s website no longer exists. Which means I am unable to register my new hot plate per Sunavo’s instructions . Translation: no two-year warranty. I can only assume that Sunavo has gone out of business, which means we have no recourse if our products fail. To make matters worse, Sunavo does not provide a customer service telephone number on any of their literature. ... show more

  • Seems reasonably well made, but just can not boil 3gals of water in a covered stainless pot.
Color: Silver
Update: Added 1.5" of Styrofoam insulation to my cookware (top & sides, obviously bottom is sitting on the hot plate), and max temp achieved was 180F after 40 mins. Need it to approach boiling :-( The insulation must have been pretty good as the water was still 90F after 24 hours. Unfortunately, the hot plate continued to shut down every minute or so (to cool off? due to limited ampacity?), and that obviously hurt performance. It's going back. Original review: After 40 minutes at full power, I gave up on it. I was trying to get 3 gallons of water (in a covered 20 quart stainless pot) to boil - highest temperature achieved was 136F. BTW, I did run a thermodynamics calculator, which suggested that with 1,500watts, I should have reached a simmer in 40 minutes with a 75F ambient temp. Next I'll attempt to insulate the pot (without enclosing the hotplate). I'll update if that changes things significantly. Also, after about 10 minutes, the hotplate cycled itself off (probably via a built-in thermal overload), and then back on again, that repeated itself several more times, which didn't help the cause. ... show more
