Honestly, I don't do my own oil changes anymore, BUT I do seem to have a lot of tight jar lids, or maybe I'm just getting older and losing my grip! For example, I buy paint in the sample size when I only need to do a small touch up or try a new color on the wall. When resealed, the lid tends to be painted on and very difficult to remove. This strap wrench works perfectly. Remember "Righty tightly, Lefty loosey", or in this case, Counter clockwise to loosen, clockwise to tighten. Simply take up the slack in the strap as shown, then hold the jar and move the wrench handle counter clockwise. Notice that as you look down on the wrench, the strap and metal bracket are on the LEFT (remember lefty loosey). the head of the wrench rolls over the strap and lid, binding it tightly. If the strap and metal bracket are to the right, it is positioned to tighten the lid, filter, cap, whatever. Handy that the package is TWO strap wrenches of different sizes, useful if it is difficult to grasp the jar or pipe body from which you are removing the top. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Every household should have at least one, two is better! Next time you can't get the lid off of the spaghetti sauce or pickles, you have the perfect solution!!! p.s. well made from heavy duty plastic, so easy to wash and store in the kitchen or workshop. ... show more

    • Nice Strap Wrench
I needed a strap wrench to change a faucet cartridge in my shower that just wouldn’t budge. This strap wrench did the trick and it was off in about 20 seconds! I never knew I needed one of these, but it turns out it’s a handy little gadget. I’ve since used it to fix a shut off valve to my outside faucet and I’m sure I’ll find more reasons to use it in the future. The nice thing about this wrench is you can do plumbing work and not worry about marring the surface. So if you were changing a tub spout or shower arm, this thing would be perfect. It’s also nice and grippy, so it doesn’t slip once it is in place. I do kind of wish it had some kind of locking mechanism, so I could tighten it and then lock it onto the pipe before using it, but it's easy enough to keep it where you want it with a little practice. I’ve only had to use the small one and can’t imagine the size of the thing needed for the large one, but it’s nice to have it in case I need it. I stuck it with all my one-time use tools that I save “just in case.” ... show more

The straps on these wrenches are thick and sturdy, the latch mechanism holds tighter to the strap the more you pull on it yet will release easily. Ideal for holding something smooth like a wheel hub or an oil filter. Flip the strap around for tightening versus loosening.
