  • Fun and silly and Jack G. is the best FF protagonist in years!
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
A really fun love letter to Final Fantasy Fans. The combat was satisfying with a fairly steep yet rewarding learning curve that rewards combination of the games various jobs and abilities. Armor system can be a bit cumbersome as you obtain a lot of it and quickly need to sell hundreds of pieces to pick up almost lateral upgrades later on. Story was a fun to watch, predictable at times, but Jack is an absolute blast throughout the game's cutscenes and gameplay. If you like final fantasy definitely give SOP a shot! ... show more

  • Fun grind with a cool job system
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
The media could not be loaded. Really fun side Final fantasy game. I'm playing this game in between playing final fantasy XVI and it's pretty fun for when I want a break from the mainline games I'm playing. Really enjoy the job system and grind this game offers.

  • Suprisingly fun battle system.
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
This game is a lot better then some of the "professional" reviews would have you believe. The story is extremely hard to follow and the writing is pretty bad...(most Square Enix games are written pretty poorly now days). On the other hand combat and job system is extremely fun and satisfying. After i was done rolling my eyes at some of the writing early on in the game, i still found myself doing all of the side quests and gathering gear for certain jobs because of how fun the combat was. If they released a sequel and refined some story elements and voice acting.......this would be a fun series to see continue. ... show more

  • Very fun to play
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
This is the most fun final fantasy game in a while. I'm not very good at games anymore, but the difficulty settings in this game are very accommodating and take all of the frustration out of playing. I have the most fun with the mage classes and I love leveling up my gear. My only complaint was the overwhelming gear drops and inventory management, but they put out a patch that addresses that beautifully! I was first put off by the comparisons to it being a souls like game, but with the many difficulty settings, it becomes very approachable and more than anything else, fun! I absolutely love this game and enthusiastically recommend it! ... show more

  • Super underrated game
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
This game is something in my opinion is for the hardcore who looking for a different unique experience that isn't gonna be too nitpicky over minor problems the game has. Not saying the game is perfect, it has problems like performance issues but I had an enjoyable time playing the game with my friends and with myself ... show more

  • Great game bogged down by other factors
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
Wow. I did not expect to like this game as much as I did. Stranger of Paradise was a really interesting and fun game that, I feel, is on the receiving end of some hefty and somewhat unfair criticism due to its cheesy launch trailer and demo. The game is definitely B-tier material, which is reflected in the graphics (looks likeUnreal Engine 3, right?) and what looks to be like cut content, such as towns which, oddly, still have their remnants in the form of NPC conversations accessible via menu. Not to mention that the very meme-able trailer and demo (that seems like a carbon copy Souls game), did not do favors to this game as both left a negative first impression. That all said, I took the game to be very tongue and cheek and self-aware of its grouchy protagonist. The game is definitely a easier version of a Souls game. That may be a pro or a con to people however I didn't mind this and definitely thought the game was fun. The element of the game that most surprised me was the story, which I thought was very interesting. The game is obviously a retelling (with a key twist at the end) of Final Fantasy I. I thought this was great, not particularly because I am a huge fan of the first game (which I still have on NES) but because I felt it to breathe some new life into an old game from the late 80s. Giving some more life to potentially obscure characters and plot elements from a relatively forgotten, overlooked, and/or overshadowed game in a well-known series brought them into some quasi relevance, depending on how successful this game is. (I'm reviewing during its launch window.) Definitely a different spin than just a straight remake, which I'm kinda growing tired of. That all said, I appreciated the effort in this game. As we move farther away from the 80s and 90s, I suspect that we'll have newer generations who won't dabble in the older mainline FF games. To the extent that this sort of approach is respectful of the series and viable for Square, it would be great to have some other takes on more obscure FF titles. ... show more
