  • Nice, affordable 5-string bass
Always wanted a 5-string bass to explore, but didn't want to invest a huge mount of money, as I am more than happy with the guitars I already have. Just got the SUB Ray 5 and am very pleased. Arrived quickly and efficiently from Sam Ash, and above all, in good shape. I was a little surprised that there was neither a manual nor even a product registration; however, you can get most of the information you might need to know online. Just plug and play. ... show more

  • Love this bass
I love this bass as it has active pickups which means it won’t work without a 9volt battery. But this thing is a beast I play it at church and it’s loud and strings on it is good . Top Two bass purchase I have made.. the Humbuck pick up is nice and strong! Would buy again.

  • Very nice inexpensive 5 string bass!
Excellent sounding 5 string bass (especially for it’s price). Stays in tune quite well, action was dead on. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an inexpensive 5 string bass.

  • Can’t be beat!
I’ve own $2k+ guitars. For $300 the value to price ratio out ranks any guitar I’ve ever owned. Can’t wait to get the four string version!

  • Great beginner bass guitar out of the box - no complaints here
This bass comes out of the box working great. I did a little quick tune-up, and I was playing Come Together in no time. I am not a professional bass player, but did play (sort of) in a high school rock band. I wanted to have a bass to play along with my son (who is learning guitar), and this is a great entry level option for that purpose. You don't really need the 5th string if you are just learning to play (or maybe don't even want it), but it's nice to have the option here. I love the look of the sunburst on the bass - looks like a bass that costs a lot more. I was surprised to find there was already a 9V battery installed, and I didn't need to make any adjustments to the action as well. Sound is great (make sure you have a bass amp!), and you have three adjust (high, low, volume) knobs as well. Bass was in perfect condition when it arrived - well packed and not scratches. Certainly my $1000+ bass that I used to own felt a bit better, but I also played better back then! If you are looking to get into the game and pick up the bass, this is a nice option. ... show more

  • Let the Bass hit em
As an a avid music afficinadio with thousands of songs from all genres in my library (mp4, cd, & vinyl) you could say I have a tremendous appreciation of music in many forms. It is the soundtrack of our lives. I was unfortunalty not blessed with the talent to play any musical instrument. Although I breifly flirted learing the 88 keys in the 90s, I threw in the towel after I failed the basic finger placement. My musical failure extends to learning the bass, as this too was beyond my ability. So instead of a glowing review of how well this sounds and plays, the bass hangs on my wall as an instrument of beauty and art. ... show more

  • Great Starter Bass. Setup Recommended
I'm a guitarist/occasional bass-tourist. I'm not trained, but have used my head start via guitar to mess around on a bass when presented with the opportunity. I can't speak to the specs as well as others here. I can confirm the following: Packaging/Shipment The bass took longer than expected to arrive, but arrived in good shape, despite what I assume to be an atypical packaging setup: The bass was fully assembled and strung, wrapped in a sealed plastic bag, with a couple of cardboard supports between the bag and the mid-weight cardboard shipping box. that said, it was unharmed. I noticed a slight scuff on the neck, but can't say if I put it there while unpacking it. Condition As others have mentioned, the bass will require a setup in order to be reliable if you plan on performing/recording. that said, it's certainly playable out of the box. Design I've only ever played 4 string bass before, but The tuning knob distribution here is interesting. the high string knob is on the bottom, the others on the top. This apparently eases the tension on the neck. The shape and finish are pleasing. it looks very nice, if not very expensive. ... show more
