  • This is a well balanced and quality instrument.
The sound of this horn is full and warm. The valve performance is excellent and the finish is great. I enjoy playing this horn when I have time just to play and enjoy my favorite music whether jazz or classical. Accomplished players will enjoy this instrument. i am a professional musician and experienced music educator. ... show more

  • Very good instrument.
Comes in a hard case of ok quality - generic. Not extremely well finished but looks nice and does the job, and is one of the only pocket trumpets that comes with a hard case. The trumpet came with a discoloration at the bottom. Also, first and second valves tend to stick when pressed a bit sideways, but I assume it has to pass its break-in period. I read somewhere it is recommended to oil them every day for the first 10 days of use while it breaks in. The trumpet sounds great and in tone, almost the same as a borrowed Bach 1530 I have. I will see if the valves thing fixes itself. The lead pipe is a bit low compared to other trumpets. It makes it a bit difficult for one hand operation or to properly stick the tumb while playing. Update: valves stickiness, although not fixed for good, got better. Not perceivable if pressed vertically. ... show more

  • Fun! Cheap but decent pocket trumpet.
After having played trumpet as a kid before abandoning it for tuba and then every rock band instrument once I hit college, I recently got a really nice Bach trumpet and have been taking lessons for about the last year. Finally getting some confidence and tone on my main axe, I decided to get this little pocket trumpet on a lark and boy, is it fun! It plays surprisingly well, especially when I use my Bach 5C and 3C mouthpieces instead of the generic 7C this horn comes with. I need to be careful with threading the valve caps and when working with the slides, because this is of course a cheap horn that is probably stamped out and slapped together by robots. But with a little care this will last a long time, and it DOES provides a very different tone than my other two horns--I recently got an old Getzen cornet as well. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner, though; a student model full-sized trumpet would be the place to go if you're just starting out. ... show more

  • Decent(ish) horn
Looks and feels good. Sounds good. Middle valve sticks. Contacted EMD music, sent wrong valve. For the price I would expect a little more quality, but realize this is not your good old Yamaha. Mediocre at best, but works fine for moderate playing.

  • Great blast for the buck
I'm just now getting back into horn playing after playing years ago (MANY years ago) in high school and needed a trumpet that was not too expensive and yet not cheaply made, and with the Stagg WS pocket trumpet, I know that I've made the right choice. No, it doesn't quite match the silvered Bach Stradivarius trumpet that I remember from high school, but that was a much more expensive instrument and for the money, this one delivers. The notes sound crisp and clear, the playability is excellent, and the build quality is superb. It just feels and sounds right. I recommend this instrument highly. ... show more

  • Nice little trumpet with a few glitches
I purchased the pocket trumpet because I was traveling overseas and did not want to deal with my regular trumpet being bumped around the cargo hold. This pocket trumpet is the perfect size for traveling (about the size of a shoebox). It's heavy but it fits into a checked bag or a carry on with relative ease. I was surprised and pleased to find that is has a lot of sound for such a compact horn. As others noted the valves did begin to stick after a few uses and I struggled to get them to respond well despite a solid dosing with some valve oil. I also felt that the upper and lower registers were a bit out--although that could just be the way I play. However, it was a great little horn for getting some practice in while traveling (fits a regular trumpet mute easily if you need to practice in hotels) without breaking the bank or ending up fighting with an airline about damages. ... show more

  • In love
The media could not be loaded. I bought valve oil with it and didn't even play it till I added it. The vales were fine I even warmed it up a bit before I posted a review. Fine trumpet

  • Out of tune
All notes played with first valve were flat. Sent it back.
