  • Top Quality Trumpet At A Fantastic Price!
Style: TR-330N Configuration: Trumpet only
This trumpet is a winner! Great design, excellent workmanship, flawless finish, and sound quality that approaches a professional instrument. As a performing jazz musician and educator, I have the opportunity to play, evaluate, and recommend a variety of instruments. Having owned and played Jean Paul alto and tenor saxophones, I’ve been aware of the quality and value of their woodwinds for some time. I’m also familiar with Jean Paul’s excellent US customer service -- some of the best in the industry. This is my first experience with their brass instruments and I am totally impressed. This affordable TR-330N trumpet is exceptionally well made with quality materials and superb workmanship. I purchased this for a student and suggested the nickel-plated model. Aspiring players just starting out soon find that a nickel-plated finish or a lacquer finish requires much less polishing and maintenance than does a horn with silver plating that constantly tarnishes. Also, nickel plating typically offers slightly better projection and a bell-like sound quality that is appealing in a band or orchestra setting. This is a medium-large bore horn with medium weight -- appropriate for the vast majority of players at any skill level. The overall design and features of this Jean Paul student trumpet emulate those found on more expensive pro horns. The 1st-valve thumb saddle and fixed 3rd-valve ring are nice appointments not typically found on trumpets in this category. The instrument fit & finish is beautiful and shows precision in every detail. The stainless steel valves can be machined to tighter tolerances and are less subject to wear and corrosion than Monel valves (a nickel/copper alloy). The valve action on this trumpet is quite smooth and fast. The supplied mouthpiece is perfect for most players for the first year or so. The case is of good quality and rugged construction. The instrument is well protected and nests solidly in the case. Pro tip: I recommend thoroughly flushing any new trumpet with warm water and upgrading the valve oil to La Tromba T2 from Switzerland. The sound this trumpet creates is impressive. From the low register to the altissimo range, notes slot easily, are clear and clean, and the intonation is excellent. I played this Jean Paul horn for a considerable period alongside other popular student trumpets (Yamaha & Bach). I also compared the sound and playability of this horn with my professional Yamaha and Schilke trumpets. Frankly, the many similarities far outweigh the differences. This superb level of quality and performance is rare at this price point -- far superior to most student horns. I would be pleased to play this fine Jean Paul trumpet on the bandstand with complete confidence. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Great for beginners and everyone else!
Style: TR-330 Configuration: Trumpet only
Got this back in July of 2020. I’ve had it since and it plays BEAUTIFULLY! So I thought “I should make a review” so I will. First of all the build quality is amazing for the price, it’s no Yamaha Xeno but it’s up there. The 3rd valve ring on this model is non-adjustable but is placed in a very comfortable spot, the 2nd valve ring is in the standard trumpet spot and works very well. The instrument just feels right, the lower register notes and tones come out so easily, nice and dark just the way you’d like it. Higher register is also pretty easy to play. Any dynamic on this horn sounds great. I’m a college student and brought this to a college audition and I was told it sounded amazing, then again it’s the player that makes the instrument but compared to others this instrument is top quality. For beginners this is a perfect instrument, it’s very easy to play on and isn’t very heavy so students can get used to it. Jean Paul provides you with a polish rag and some valve oil which is great, also some gloves but y’know every trumpet comes with that these days. I have the say even the polish rag is made well and feels like a quality polish rag. Now comes what I don’t like, the valve oil that is provided to you in this case is, well good but not the best. When I first got the horn I used the oil in the case, it worked well for about 45 minutes and then the valves started sticking, I took out the valve and it looked pretty dry. I thought maybe I just have to clean the instrument out, so I did a full wash and tried again, this time it went on for about an hour and then the valve started sticking again. I tried a different valve oil and the valve have been fine ever since. I don’t think it’s the instrument I just think it’s the valve oil provided. It’s good for a short gig but if you’re playing for a long while get some different oil it’ll help. The case provided isn’t a hard case but works just as well as one, it comes with some backpack straps to turn it into a gig case and they actually don’t feel too bad, very comfortable and very durable. All in all this is an amazing instrument, very nice to play on and very easy to use. Most of what is provided is good quality the valve oil not so much. If you’re in high school and want a personal instrument I would definitely get this one. If you’re beginning in band and play trumpet, if you want to get a personal horn get this one. ... show more

  • Better than the school rentals
Style: TR-330 Configuration: Trumpet only
At the end of my child's first year of trumpet she had to turn in her school rental. I decided to purchase a trumpet so she didn't lose what she learned in that first year over the summer. This was the best I could do in a beginner price range in my research so I went with this. My child picked it up and played very well and immediately said she loved it. It is in much better condition than the heavily worn school rental was so she played better than she ever had. Worth every penny. I'm not a trumpet expert but it sounds fantastic to me and my middle-school trumpet player! ... show more

  • Good Beginner Trumpet
Style: TR-330 Configuration: Trumpet only
I used to play trumpet in school and missed it so I bought this to start playing again. So far I have had the trumpet for like 5 years and I wanted to review it. I was thinking about buying a nicer trumpet because I'm a Libra and I like nice things. But then it hit me that this has actually been a really nice trumpet and case for a beginner. Like, it's nicer and better price point than the one my parents rented for me when I was in school. Too bad we didn't have Amazon back then..or even the internet but I digress. It has been a very nice trumpet for the 5 years I have had it. I don't play often and it works ok and looks even better. The only thing I can say bad about it is that the 3rd key is a little slow and sometimes I have to be really mindful of it or the notes come out a little flat or off. I've oiled the valves and kept it clean. I think maybe it could use a tighter spring or something, I'm not sure. It's been like this the entire time I've had it but it doesn't always do this. TL:DR - Great trumpet for the money ... show more
