  • Awesome knife - Love it but be advised that mine came in Magnacut steel - not LC200N.
This is an outstanding knife that actually comes in the magnificent Magnacut steel! I thought I was getting LC200N steel as the website description and picture reflect, but that is not the case. However, I really love Magnacut steel, and this is one of the only knives you can find on Amazon that has Magnacut steel. This is not a cheap knife, obviously, but it's a great one. Keep in mind that while LC200N may be a little better on corrosion resistance (not much really), the Magnacut is going to be a tougher knife that hold an incredible edge. I think Magnacut gives you the best of both worlds here in corrosion resistance and a hard-nosed workhorse razor sharp blade with much better edge retention than LC200N. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the Magnacut steel and couldn't be happier with this one! Highly, highly recommended!!! ... show more

  • Love it
I have a spyderco dragonfly salt in h1 steel (which I love for summer carry), but I wanted a larger salt series knife for canoe and fishing trips, and for when I'm out in the rain and humidity. I decided to try this LC200N steel version since I'd been wanting a Native 5 anyhow, and this steel should hold an edge longer than the h1. Man, am I glad I did! Fit and finish are perfect, razor sharp out of the box, ergos are great for my women's medium hands and long fingers, and it's a great size for me - not so big that it looks ridiculous in my hand, but big enough to handle any typical edc task. I took it out for its test run this weekend - mushroom hunting in the pouring rain all afternoon. It was a great slicer, and not a spot of rust after being wet half the day. Used it to prep our mushroom haul later, and I was just as happy with it in the kitchen. Great purchase! ... show more

  • very well made (magnacut version)
This is my first spiderco somehow and ivd had quite a few expensive knifes, some made in usa some not. the finish on this knife is simply great. perfect edge, grind, assembly is top notch nothing moves, blade is centered, oiled, this thing despite the plastic handle smells high quality all around (yes, including the handle, actually). I bought it knowing this was likely magnacut (description on the listing is wrong) and i have zero regrets. The blade shape is great as well and the grip notches a big and deep, i.e. it grips extremely well. Ive been trying to think of a con but its hard.. maybe if you hate yellow? ... show more

  • Different color yellow... Still love it
I'm writing this review mainly to clarify what I had a hard time finding an answer to before buying. The Native 5 Salt is infact a different shade of yellow than the other knives in the salt series. It appears that way in the photos but there is no mention of it in any description so I wasn't sure if it was maybe just the lighting in the photo. After asking this question on Amazon and getting all incorrect answers, I contacted Spyderco directly and they confirmed the Native 5 Salt is "more of a sun yellow than a dayglo yellow" because it is made in Golden Colorado as apposed to Seki City Japan where the H1 salts are made. With all that said, I don't care about the slightly different shade of yellow, I love this knife. As a commercial diver I became a huge fan of the Salt series knives. Spending a lot of time underwater, salt and fresh, I can attest that the H1 WILL NOT rust no matter how much abuse and negligence you put it through. The H1 serrated holds an edge fine and will cut through thick rope like it was nothing but apparently the plain edge does not. I wanted a plain edge salt knife so I was excited to learn about LC200N steel and that by sacrificing a little bit of corrosion resistance you gain much superior edge retention. H1 serrated is my go to for diving and now LC200N is my go to for every day carry. The ergonomics of the handle and finger choil are fantastic which allow this to be a work horse of a knife in a relatively compact size. If I have a pocket the Native 5 Salt will be in it! ... show more

  • Well Designed, Executed EDC Knife
If you could only have one folding knife, you would be hard pressed to find a better candidate. Fits the hand well, easy to sharpen, holds edge well, and won't corrode. My only quibble is that it doesn't flick open easily like my other Spyderco knives, I thought it would loosen-up over time but it hasn't. ... show more

  • Well made knife!
This knife is Amazing! It did come as CPM Magnacut. I'm not sure if that will be the case from every seller, (I bought mine from the BladHQ storefront here on Amazon) but I think they are phasing out the LCN 200 and replacing it with Magnacut. Honestly, either way, it would still be amazing. The pocket clip is the full metal clip and the handle looks and feels much better than the pics show. The backlock is incredible! This isn't really a fidgety knife, but it is almost indestructible. This was my first Spyderco, but it definitely won't be my last. ... show more

  • Great, purpose built knife.
Awesome knife. Great blade shape and ergonomics. The rust resistance is no joke I have been in salt water with this clipped inside the waist band of my swimming trunks for hours and theres no rust. There are only two downsides to this knife. 1) the action is NOT fast. You will not be able to flick this out like other spidercos. I assume this is done because they didn't want to put washers or bearings in this knife that can rust. 2) the steel isn't the hardest. It will scratch from use. All said and done it's an amazing knife that I take with me whenever I'm near the water or plan on cutting acidic foods like limes frequently without being able to wash the knife. ... show more
