I have a few edc & some I don't carry much . The sharpener does exactly what it it says. I even sharpened a couple serrated knives . Key is not much pressure needed. I sharpened every pocket knife I had almost. Some I got razor sharp , some I got sharper than they were. The fire starter I had high doubts on but it actually turned out to be one of the best ones if not the best iv ever used. I tried it on a rag I use for oiling things wiping excess oils off. It caught fire on second try. Second time I used torn up tp it ignited first try . Very useful survival. Whistle works great also. I'm a prime shopper panel person, I used my reward to purchase this buts it's definitely worth the 10.00 original price. But free is better. Will definitely buy more ... show more

We purchased a couple of these, sharing them with a few relatives who are intense hikers. We also purchased for ourselves and our survival kit. We live on the oceanfront and put in our Tsunami bug out kit. It has the all important sharpener aspect, but also a fire starter. A whistle, etc. Husband reports that the sharpener works very well on his pocket knife collection. Win/win. We probably all need one of these! Small, compact and easy to carry or put into a kit. Having said all of this, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. All of my reviews reflect my honest, personal experience with the reviewed item - your experience may be different. I am not influenced by any outside source. I’ve sharpened all my blades with this. It is very compact and very easy to use. It’s not heavy, and it is good at sharpening blades. It’s pretty durable (surprisingly) and the grip isn’t bad either. There are 2 sharpening options, the metal or the other option. The only thing I don’t like is that the metal option kinda does a rough job with the blade. It’s not a pretty finish. It does the job and makes it sharp, very sharp, but it’s not a pretty or smooth finish. Not smooth at all, in fact, after using this sharpener my blade kinda catches onto cloth. Again, it does its job very nicely. And it’s good for the price. If you really want what’s best for your blades though, you might want to use stones or something else. Absolutely fantastic and worth it 100x over. Anyone who loves cooking or knives or fishing would be so happy with this as a gift. Buy an extra one as it's a great backup gift and useful for your emergency pack. I swiped my kitchen knives three times on each sharpener and they're like new!

This little sharpener is awesome. I've used it a ton since purchasing it. They really packed a lot of features in such a small product. Love that it has explicit directions engraved on it. The fishing hook sharpener is also a nice touch. Sharpened my pocket knives and tried it on a couple of my kitchen knives as well and it has not disappointed. Small enough to slip in a go pack or as a back up for knife sharpening needs. Not really any cons for the use case it has been designed for. Great value for money. ... show more

For the price it's a very nice product. And sharpens edc knives very well. Sharpened 5 knives with ease and fast! And they are close to being like new. The fire starter part is bad***! Really sparks. The whistle is just ok, but effective. Love the fish hook sharpener. Works great 👍 get one!

The Sharpal 101NG Pocket Knife Sharpener competes with a number of other makers of similar products. Who was first with this product doesn't matter. The Sharpal 101NG is more attractive than others, but otherwise the features and functions of the others are similar or identical. So catching the eye is good, but price-point is better, and the Sharpal is both, and an extra Ferrocerium rod insert adds a bit more value, since that extra rod can be useful for certain buyers. Sharpal has put even the kitchen into their title, but really, while it could be used as a kitchen knife sharpener, this is more a field or shop gear bag or utility box item for those who aren't, shall we say, picky about how a knife "should" be sharpened. Doubt if a backpacker would tote this, but it might be in a car camper's gear box. What can it do? This type sharpener provides V carbide cutters for fixing real problem edges (takes a toll on the blade edge), and V ceramic inserts for actually sharpening edges. This type also provides a tapered diamond coated round rod for sharpening serrations as well as edges the V's don't accept. Now some brands end there. Others add Ferrocerium rod inserts and even button compasses to appeal to outdoorsy potential buyers. Personally I put the Sharpal into my Car Camping gear bag for just-in-case use. The spare Ferrocerium rod I put into a Day Pack "Emergency Fire-Making Kit", intended to be small, lightweight, and likely never used.
