The award-winning game Splendor returns with this fresh take on its classic drafting gameplay. Featuring the clever engine building that Splendor is known for, Splendor Duel offers a compact, tight two-player experience that will be instantly recognizable to fans of the original game, while also adding new decisions and mechanisms that offer deeper strategic options.The new common board has players drafting Gem, Gold and rare Pearl tokens from a 5x5 grid. I am writing this because I just don't see enough reviews for this masterpiece. We have been playing the original Splendor for years, and more often than not, as a two-player game, which it affords. It has always been one of what I call "Clean rule" games. That is to say-it is logical, and the rules make sense. No ambiguities, which we like. I was so excited to see this "duel" variant come out. First, because we love the original. Secondly, it is a small, portable option, and we love throwing a few games into the car when we hit a café on the weekend-Res Arcana and Wingspan are two favs, and the boxes are quite big. It's great. This game plays in the Splendor world, but adds some new victory conditions, the three of which are: 20 total points 10 points in the same color gem stack Ten Crowns Those of you who have played the original will note the addition of crowns. There are also scrolls that allow you to take a gem before your turn, as well as card that have additional powers of allowing you to steal a gem from your opponent (other than gold), take another turn, or take a scroll. There is a new mechanism for taking gems as well as a new gem-the pearl. Another reviewer notes that this pearl gem (of which there are only two) are a bit OP and very necessary making them a bit much, but to that reviewer I will note-gold can be pearls, so ostensibly, there are five possible pearls.     • Super fun and easy to learn
We love this game. Perfect little game for two people. We have played it many times and enjoy it immensely. I would recommend this game for couples and children about 9 or 10 years old and up. There's a lot of strategy packed into this little game which keeps it fresh, but on the other hand children can play it on a more surface level and find it entertaining at face value. ... show more

I love this game. It’s so much fun My friends and I play it a lot. Pieces are sturdy and well made. The size of the cards are the smaller size but this doesn’t bother me at all. I think it’s the perfect game for two people. I also like the artwork on the game.

Splendor Duel is a great 2-player update for Splendor. There are more win conditions as well as special card abilities, and you draft gems from a board with a variable layout, all of which make the game more interesting and less predictable. The components are really nice, especially the poker-style chips and the privilege scrolls. The whole game packs into a small box, so it's something you could travel with, though the table footprint does take up some space. The rulesheet is clear and straightforward, so it's an easy to learn game that leaves a lot of room for strategy and growth the more you play. One of my favorite quick games! ... show more

This is one of my favorite two-person games! I'm a fan of the original Splendor, which is also fun to play with two people, but Splendor Duel takes it to another level with several enhancements to make it more interesting and strategic. It is compact and would be easy to travel with.

    • A dynamic, engaging and fun game that doesn’t get old no matter how many times you play it.
This is a great 2 player strategy game. The game only goes through a subset of the cards during play, which means the strategy changes every time you play it. You have to know your game plan, but also watch your opponent to potentially prevent key moves they need to make. You have to be flexible in using the tools and resources provided to you because you can’t always achieve your objective the way you first thought you could. When two players are evenly matched in skill, there does seem to be an advantage to who goes first, but not always. It is a relatively fast game to play when you are comfortable with the game play and rules. Highly recommended. ... show more

If you have played original splendor or not, this game is fun. I’ve gifted it to my elder parents and younger family members. It seems a tad complicated at first but if you watch the how to play videos it will sink in. Great strategy 2 player
