In my humble opinion this Sony UBP-X700M is an excellent UHD player for it's price. The video playback in 4K is great, even with my entry-level 4K television. It is very similar to Sony's BX-370 Blu-ray player interface and it even uses an identical remote control. No problems... other than having to replace a lot of older Blu-ray discs, fortunately it has terrific upscaling, but seriously I think this player is very easy to set up and use. This is a very good, light weight player. Small footprint, gets the job done. Plays old format DVD as well as the latest Blu-Ray. Great quality video translation, have not experienced any issues. Ensure your configurations are correct if you experience problems. Sound quality is excellent. The apps featured are nice bonuses. I don't have one bad thing to say about this product. It works seamlessly with my TV. The picture is great, and I and psyched that I now own my very first 4K DVD player. The only bad side is that I have to upgrade my entire selection. Ok, if there was only little gripe, and this if a frequent criticism of many products, the remote is mapped out like Gene from Marketing designed it. Plug and play. No extensive, confusing setup. Comes with everything you need in the box including an HDMI cable and batteries for the remote. This Blu Ray player played DVDs that wouldn't work on my 12-yo Magnavox unit. It makes older DVDs look crisper thanks to the 4k conversion. I've watched about 8 different movies on it so far and haven't had any issues. I haven't experienced any lag that others have complained about. 10/10 would recommend for someone looking for an easy setup process and wanting to improve the viewing quality of older DVDs without having to buy new ones. ... show more

The delivery was exactly & precisely as promised with quick response follow-up validation. The product performance of the Sony UBP-X700 blu-ray/DVD player has been exceptional. Please be sure it's plugged into a surge protector, circuit spikes can easily destroy. This is my second UBP-X700 & I am following my advice. EDIT: I have had problems with this player from day one. The new cables help the audio a great deal but almost every disc freezes up when playing. I contacted this seller, but it is past the 30-day return window. So, I am trying to contact Sony for warranty work. Once it's fixed, I will sell it. I've already ordered another unit, different brand. As of a week ago, we now own four UHD 4k discs given to us this Christmas. But we only had a 1080p Blu-Ray player. So, we had to upgrade to view the new movies. I ordered this one the day after Christmas here on Amazon. It arrived only a couple of days later. We can watch our new 4k discs and all others before this (DVD & Blu-Ray) as it is backwards compatible. Why did I almost return it? When setting it up, I thought I'd save time and complication by using the HDMI cable I had with the Blu-Ray. Just unplug from old player and plug into new player. RIght? Easy. Fast. However, the first disk we were watching would freeze up. Intolerable. Dang it. So, I initiated a return. But before I brought it to the UPS store to return it, I did simple research about what causes discs or data stream from the disc to freeze up in the first place. Turns out, a cable not able to support the larger bandwidth can do that. Huh. So, I looked at the cable that was supplied with the player and it was rated 18Gps, 4K which is what's recommended for a UHD 4k player. I swapped the old cable with the new supplied one, rewatched the first disc, then watched the remaining three. Not a single freeze up. I'm sold. Not an issue with the player, just an underrated HDMI cable. So, to the reviewers giving this player a bad wrap over freezing up I ask you, "Did you use the supplied 18 Gps 4k HDMI cable that is supplied with the player? The audio will blank out a couple of times for a couple of seconds with each disc, but I've read that it can happen when the disk changes layers during the movie. I have ordered a new cable rated for the same 18 Gps 4k for the ARC (Audio Return Channel) from my TV to the HT receiver. I am hoping that'll take care of the quick little audio gaps. If it doesn't, eh...no big deal. So, we (my wife included) love this new player. ... show more

We had old DVD and the player we had did not have HDMI... time to upgrade to Blu-ray. Upscaling is a huge thing because our concert DVDs are old. Paired this with a new Sony amp and enjoying my DVDs again after years not being played. This system is great for playing but the DNLR function for music lacks everything. Will play a single song or an album but 52 hours of music at random from my NAS storage, forgeddaboudit! Apps to install on it is non-existent. The ones that come with are useless (except Pandora). Plays Pandora great! Plays DVD great! Do not get for a music player but do get for every other reason. ... show more
